Offbeat and witty, Glow is the story of Ruth Wilder, an aspiring actress in LA. When superstardom comes knocking in the form of women’s wrestling, it’s a no-holds-barred contest of epic proportions. Definitely an award-worthy series for enjoying!
American Vandal is a true-crime series with a twist! This satire takes a behind-the-scenes look at what happens with high school pranks. Dubbed a mockumentary TV series, this creative masterpiece by Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault delivers on expectations with drama, comedy, and crime, infused into a 34-minute long series of episodes worth watching. Starring Tyler Alvarez and Griffin Gluck, American vandal plays out in blistering fashion as 27 high school staff cars are vandalized with obscene images. Uproariously hilarious, and a masterful whodunnit, American Vandal shines.
Ozark is a dark and brooding crime drama. Starring the inimitable talent of Jason Bateman, alongside Laura Linney and Sofia Hublitz, Ozark is the story of Martin Marty Byrde, Wendy Byrde, and their teenagers, John and Charlotte. On the surface, it’s a normal family, but behind-the-scenes Marty Byrde is working for a Mexican drug cartel. Things don’t go as planned, and suddenly the family finds themselves in Missouri Ozarks in what users have called a virtuous crime drama.
Narcos is a blistering Netflix crime/drama biography which ran from 2015 through 2017. With an 8.8/10 rating, Narcos pulls back the curtain on the dangerous world of gangsterism, drugs, and the biggest criminal empire of our time – that of Pablo Escobar. A runaway success with 2 Golden Globes nominations, and scores of wins, Narcos stars Pedro Pascal and Wagner Moura (earlier seasons). This story is gritty and appealing, with lots of popular cultural reference like its high stakes poker scenes. Given that it’s a true-life behind-the-vale look at the drug cartels around the world, Narcos is powerful and unnerving at times. With a focus on Medellin cartel, Narcos bristles as one of the top 10 must-see Netflix shows.
Master of None
Master of None is a comedy caper from Netflix with plenty of fun-filled adventures. This series ranks among the most highly rated from Netflix at 8.3/10. It tells the story of Dev, a New York actor. Created by Alan Yang and Aziz Ansari, Master of None has rapidly risen in popularity in recent years. Filled with emotions, this storybook adventure goes the distance as a romantic escapade about better things. It’s a thought-provoking comedy with an intelligent script that is definitely worth checking out on Netflix!
Not the most highly-rated Netflix show, but certainly an interesting mystery crime thriller. White Lines details the story of a woman seeking answers to the death of her brother who vanished into thin air from Ibiza many years ago. Starring Laura Haddock, Nuno Lopes, Marta Milans, Daniel Mays, and Juan Diego Botto, White Lines delivers on expectations for a discerning group of viewers. While some believe it to be great, others believe it to be mediocre. If you’re part of the niche audience who enjoys spectacular character development, this one is worth checking out.
Marvel’s the Punisher
Marvel has always been ahead of the game when it comes to creating powerfully scripted and wildly entertaining superhero series. The Punisher is precisely that. When Frank Castle learns about the vicious and savage murder of his family, he becomes an outlaw to avenge his relatives. Known as The Punisher, he delivers street justice to the villains who killed his family, and he discovers a truly heinous plot that runs deep into the heart of the criminal underbelly of the Big Apple.
Special is a really interesting comedy-drama. This Netflix series tells the difficult story of a struggling gay man suffering from cerebral palsy. Starring Ryan O’Connell, Jessica Hecht, and Punam Patel, Special is barely 15 minutes long, but it’s poignant nonetheless. It’s uproariously funny, and packed with lots of excitement. Definitely a must-watch on the 10 great Netflix shows you might have missed.
This Netflix mini-series really rocks! It’s a documentary-style, crime mystery. This 7-part documentary tells the horrifying story of a nun who was murdered in the Catholic Church. The story is truly harrowing, yet it’s one that has to be told. The women in the Church were poorly treated and their perpetrators were heinous people. Sister Cathy’s murder was a tragedy that needed to be reported. This story brings it all home, full circle.
What’s not to like about Ugly Delicious? This Netflix TV show tells the story of a celebrated chef named David Chang who puts an entirely new spin on the food and travel adventure. If you’re in two minds about what good food ought to be, this show makes for great entertainment. It’s about food, travel, politics, gender, and drama. Totally fun for a different type of series!
