About the place:
The nickname, “Giant of the Loire Valley,” itself suggests that this castle, with 7 floors and 204 rooms, is the tallest in France. Located just south of the Anger’s, in the Loire Valley, the castle was originally built in the 11th century.
Ghost sightings:
Known as the highest castle in France, Château de Brissac is also famous for its eerie past. Legend says that the ghost of Charlotte de Brézé, also addressed as the ‘Green Lady,’ is seen roaming the halls of the castle. According to the official website of the castle, la Dame Verte, or the “Green Lady,” is said to be the illegitimate daughter of King Charles VII.
Her husband murdered her after he discovered that she was having an affair with another man. Her ghost is often seen in the tower room of the chapel, wearing the green dress that she was supposedly wearing at the time of her death. She is not only sighted by the guests but also heard moaning in the early hours.
Currently: Château de Brissac is now a popular hotel and hosts various events with guests brave enough to stay there overnight.
2. Monte Cristo Homestead, New South Wales, Australia
About the place:
Located in the town of Junee, Monte Cristo is a historic double-storeyed homestead constructed by Christopher William Crawley in the year 1885. It is a late Victorian manor house and is also known as the most haunted house in Australia.
Ghost sightings:
The house was passed to Mr. Crawley’s wife, Elizabeth Crawley, who died of a ruptured appendix. Supposedly, Mrs. Crawley’s ghost reside in this place. One incident led to another and resulted in the occurrence of a chain of supernatural events.
These include – a maid plunged to death from the upstairs balcony, a woman walking in a period dress along the veranda to the steps she fell, and a stable boy burned to death in the hands of his master.
A mentally disabled man, who was the son of the caretaker, was found curled near his mother’s dead body and was chained up for 40 years in the caretaker’s cottage. Built by Bhagwant Das for his son, Madho Singh, Bhangarh Fort is a 16th-century fort located in Rajasthan. Palaces, temples, and Havelis can be found when one enters the fort city built anciently. But, these ruins have an entirely different story, a very spooky one.

Two legends are believed to have cursed the fort city. A wizard named Sinhai fell in love with a princess, Ratnavati. He believed if he gave a love potion to her, she would fall for him, but she refused and threw it on a boulder that rolled and crushed the wizard. It is said that he cursed at all the inhabitants of the village before he died.
Another tale suggests that the ghost of a local saint cursed the town because the shadow of the fort fell on his house, overpowering it in height. He said that if ever anybody tries to build a roof on the fort, it will be bad for the entire fort city.
Currently: Bhangarh fort, also known as “House of Ghosts,” is now an archaeological site. People visit the place in broad daylight and are not allowed to enter the premises after dark.

A historic home in St. Francisville, northwest of New Orleans, is the Myrtles Plantation. It is a plantation house built by General David Bradford in 1796. The ghost of a woman is often seen dancing in the ballroom of the Banff Springs Hotel. It is said that the woman died of a broken neck when she fell off the staircase, panicking that her dress caught fire. She is seen dancing with flames coming from her dress. Another tale suggests that a family is seen in the hallway. The family was murdered in room 873. Sam, the bellman, is also seen doing his job after his death in the year 1975. - The restaurant, “One if by Land, Two if by sea,” which was once a carriage house of Aaron Burr, is said to be haunted by his ghost.
- The Winchester Mystery House of California was built by Sarah Winchester in order to keep herself from the vengeful spirits of the people that were killed by her husband’s gun.
