Athlete’s Foot is accompanied by dry, scaly and itchy feet with a tendency to emit bad odour in new and old shoes. It is not restricted to any weather conditions, and it is not that this syndrome only occurs among athletes. Athlete’s Foot is a highly contagious disease, happens by sharing shoes or socks with another person who is already suffering from this disease.
Athlete’s Foot is caused by a fungus that resides on the outer skin. It may lead to thick and dry skin on the soles, scaly eruptions on the feet, cracks between the skin on the toes and tiny foot blisters.
If your feet sweat a lot and you wear shoes that trigger hot and sweaty feet problems then you are likely to get an Athlete’s Foot. Sharing the same shower and shoes with a person who got Athlete’s foot can also lead to contamination. If you are suffering from this syndrome, there are a few things you can do to treat it.
Treatments of Athletes’ Foot
- Apply Zeasorb Athlete Foot Powder inside your shoes before you wear them. It should be done until six months after going through the two-month-long actual treatment.
- Twice a day for two months terbinafine or clotrimazole creams that have antifungal properties
- Get rid of those smelly old shoes that are the main reason for this infection.
- Your home needs to be disinfected every day with bleach or phenyl while you are going through the treatment.
Apart from this, there are other measures you can take to prevent getting this infection such as
Preventions
- Wear sandals while entering a common shower (in gyms or swimming clubs and beaches)
- Keep your feet clean- wash your feet daily with soap especially the area between your toes. Remember dead skin and dirt accumulation cause athlete foot infections
- Keep your feet dry- because a moist environment triggers fungal growth
- Keep your toenails trimmed and don’t allow dirt to gather them
- Wear cotton socks as synthetic ones don’t let your skin breathe causing infections
- Put on breathable shoes and avoid plastic and closed-toe shoes
- Use antifungal creams every time you step out if you are already suffering from the infection
So now there is no need to feel awkward to remove your shoes in public, follow the simple preventions and say goodbye to smelly, sweaty Athlete’s Foot.
