Watches can be an expensive accessory. With so many different options on the market, you want to do everything in your power to ensure you get the right one for you, as well as one that is truly reflective of its value.

Shopping for watches can be difficult, and it can be hard to know when you have found the right one. Thankfully, there are things you can do to make the process a lot easier and enjoyable and put you firmly in control so that you can get the best deal available.

When buying a new watch, consider these dos and don’ts before you make a purchase, as they could save you a small fortune and help you get the watch of your dreams.

Dos and Don’ts of Buying a New Watch  1

Don’t Buy a Luxury Watch for Daily Use

It may be tempting to buy the most glamorous, best looking watch in the store; however, you need to consider how you plan to use it. A luxury watch that is better suited to elegant evening wear is not going to be the most robust, meaning that it’s more likely to suffer scratches and other damage in your day-to-day life.

You want to find something that is going to be durable, is scratch resistant, and has a long battery life. There are some watches that can easily double up for both occasions, such as the Omega Speedmaster or Rolex GMT, but these are destined to be extremely pricey options no matter where you shop.

Do Consider a Smartwatch

Smartwatches are a great technological advancement. Not only can they tell the time, but they also integrate a lot of key smartphone features, putting them into a convenient and easy-to-access location on your wrist. With a smartwatch you can respond to messages, read reminders, track your workouts, and so much more.

If you’re put off by the idea of smartwatches because of their futuristic and overtly technological designs, there are great hybrids on the market that blend traditional features like leather straps to modern technology to create something sleek and attractive.

They’re no more expensive than your upper market watches, plus you can get significant discounts if you buy used smartwatches for men.

Don’t Buy a Watch That’s Too Big for You

There are some watches that have a massive case on them, coupled up with an equally ginormous display, which does make it easier to see, and can also look nice and slick. However, these sizes are also only best suited to big hands and wrists. Not everyone will be able to accommodate a watch of this size, as it could be heavy and cumbersome, making it more of an uncomfortable pain than a luxury.

The most recommended size for a case ranges from 40-44mm, as most wrists should be able to deal with that, but it’s always best practice to try a watch on beforehand, to ensure its comfort and suitability.

Do Shop Around

Whenever you’re looking for a good deal, regardless of what you plan on buying, shopping around and looking at the prices in different stores is one of the best ways to figure out where you can get the best deal. Having a range of prices will also allow you to better appreciate the true value of a watch, meaning you can make a more informed purchasing decision.

Varying stores may also have other benefits, too, such as complimentary items, deals, exclusive products, or they may simply just look after the watch better than others. Even when shopping for one, it’s best to browse as many sites as you can to find the best deal.
