The Alchemist: A Journey to Find the Treasure Within

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is not only a gripping tale; it is also a reminder to search for the magic that reigns in every one of us. The protagonist in this book, Santiago, is a shepherd who goes in pursuit of a treasure he dreams of which is said to be buried somewhere near the pyramids of Egypt. However, his he’s dreaming to find the treasure reveals far deeper truth – furthering his quest.

A little more than just an adventure in pursuit of wealth, the story tells of finding your own reason to exist or pursue one’s Personal Legend. Santiago’s journey is not easy as he meets a couple of confusing characters including Melchizedek and an alchemist who through their experiences teach him how to look at the world and understand what is meant to be.

As the story progresses, Santiago’s desert has become a symbol of endurance as well as endurance. It is quite easy to feel overwhelmed in today’s fast-paced environment, but Santiago pressure teaches him some key virtues like persistence and foresight which is applicable even in this present world. The genius of this narrative though is the nobility of lessons it teaches – of self belief – that the treasure you seek is you.

In this profound book, The Alchemist makes perhaps the simplest but also deadliest point – when we dream, we are being pointed in the right direction to reach our purpose. Every challenge can lead to an opportunity just as Santiago’s adventures did, and just as lead can be transformed to gold.

That brings us nicely to the question: what is your own Personal Legend? Why not listen to your heart, seek out the treasure and reach satisfying closure to your quest.
