Narendra Modiโs Speech- Hope of a New Horizon
Narendra Modi began his speech by addressing the Speaker, the Vice President and the distinguished members of the the US Congress and all the ladies and gentlemen who were present in the Assembly. He expressed his honor and gratitude at being invited to the joint meeting of the US Congress. Addressing US as the temple of democracy he said that being the the worldโs largest democracy it was indeed a privilege to speak to the leader of its oldest. He went on to say that US and India may have different history, culture and faith,ย but their belief in democracy and liberty for their countrymen unites them. He went on to mention that how the thinkers of both US and India had helped each other along the way.
Thoreauโs idea of civil disobedience influenced our political thoughts And, similarly the call by the great sage of India Swami Vivekananda to embrace humanity was most famously delivered in Chicago.
He said that he was sure that their shared philosophy and thought process had strengthened their bond.
โNo wonder then that former Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee called India and the U.S. natural allies.โ He mentioned that the pages of their friendship had helped them to overcome their hesitations of friendship. He mentioned his dream to economically empower India through social and economic transformations. He called to the US to extend their hand in partnership to fulfill his dreams. He also spoke about the chance of mutual prosperity through their unitedย endeavors.
Indiaโs strong economy, and growth rate of 7.6% per annum, is creating new opportunities for our mutual prosperity.
Transformative American technologies in India and growing investment by Indian companies in the United States both have a positive impact on the lives of our citizens.
He said that interdependence was very important for the 21st century. He proposed to promote:
โข Cooperation not dominance;
โข Connectivity not isolation;
โข Respect for Global Commons;
โข Inclusive not exclusive mechanisms; and above all
โข Adherence to international rules and norms.
He also called to US to unite for the cause of eradication of terrorism.
โTerrorism must be de-legitimized.โ
He talks of embarking on a new journey, with new goals, to give rise to new ideas:
โข Not just on creating wealth but also creating value for our societies;
โข Not just on immediate gains but also long term benefits;
โข Not just on sharing best practices but also shaping partnerships; and
โข Not just on building a bright future for our peoples, but in being a bridge to a more united, humane and prosperous world.
Narendra Modiโs words reiterate his belief in the unity of both India and US to bring about a revolution in the future. Hisย speech makes us hope that a promising future is waiting for India.
