A Letter To Myself

Dear me,

Stop thinking too much, and it’s not going to get you anywhere. Trust yourself and your instincts. Believe in yourself even if nobody else believes in you. You are not flawless, but you are unique. You are one of the best persons I’ve ever met, even when you act dumb at times. You may not have found what you are looking for yet, but have faith and keep looking. It will come around eventually. I know you try your best to make things right but somehow, you mess everything up. Trust me, one day, you will get it right. You may not be the person everyone wants to be friends with, don’t dim your brightness for the sake of others’ acceptance. Don’t regret the mistakes you’ve made because your mistakes make you stronger and smarter. It’s okay if people call you a kid; not everyone enjoys the privilege of childhood all their life.

Don’t despise yourself if you have lost; at least you tried. You did all you could, and some things are just not meant to be. Don’t look for refuge in other people, and they will disappoint you every time. Don’t be afraid of failure, and it’s the first step towards success. There will be times when you’d realize everything you wished for was never what you wanted. Don’t hate yourself for not knowing. Nobody knows it all. Forgive yourself. Move on.

Sometimes life will be so hard that you’d feel helpless and insignificant; you’d want to give it all up and run away. It’s okay to be scared, but it’s not okay to give up because you’re scared. Always remember that all you need is few seconds of courage to do whatever you want. Don’t let anything or anyone stop you from pursuing your dreams, not even yourself. Underestimating yourself is the greatest barrier you can put in the path to accomplishing your dreams. Never do that. Many people will do that for you without even you asking for it.

Do yourself a favor and appreciate yourself for who you are. You may not always make the right choice, but the wrong choices make the best of stories. Your book might prove to be a failure; even your friends might not show any interest in buying it. Don’t be sad. Don’t stop writing. One day your book will make it to the best sellers list.

I know you’re in a hurry to be successful but always remember even miracles take a little time. People will tell you to stop believing in fairytales. Don’t. You know in your heart that fairytales can come true if we become our own fairy godmothers. Fairytales don’t always mean happily ever after; sometimes, they give us hope of better times when nothing seems right.

When you fall in love, you’d realize it’s not everything you were expecting it to be. That’s okay. Life has a funny way of proving us wrong. Cherish it as long as it lasts. There’s magic in you. Believe in that magic. Have faith in your abilities. You know you can conquer the world if you want.

Truly Yours,

The Quiet Voice In Your Head
