Writing on Sachin Tendulkar, the cricketer who had redefined the sport, would be inane as he had marched through this sport leading right from the front for almost 25 years. The records tumbled to Sachin’s feet with his great attributes that were always a test to cricket. More than looking into the ineffable achievements this genius had done, let’s look at the journey, which he had given us in brief during his farewell speech at the Wankhede.

Eyes had already dried up when the master made his last walk through the ground where he had possibly spent half of his illustrious cricketing career. But the eyes needed to get refreshed for the farewell speech.

Everyone expected the master to break down emotionally during his speech, but hasn’t he been astonishing everyone with his game?

The master had carried a list for the first time. A son is never complete without his father, and Sachin is not an exception. Raising the bat to the skies was a regular sight when he was batting. You might have thought it was to the gods; yes, it was for his god. It was indeed a soul-stirring moment for all his fans when he said he dedicated all his achievement to his father, whom he lost in the year 2000, and thanked his mother, who has always been a pillar of strength for Sachin.

We always forget to acknowledge the right person. How many of us remember our first teacher? But yea, the master did—Ramakant Achrekar, who was the initiator of this masterpiece. Sachin never forgets to acknowledge the right people at the right time. He also recalled the days when Achrekar sir took Sachin on his scooter right from Azad Maidan to Sivaji park. These were the days of the making of a superstar.

Siblings and relatives are a very obligatory part of growing up that never ends. The master recollects the days where he would live with his aunt and the ‘Kashmir Willow’ bat that his sister first gifted. This was the first time that we saw the master emotionally unstable when he said that his sister still fasts when he bats.

His brother Ajith, ‘ well what do I say about him?’ was what master said, which portrayed the significant sibling bonding they had. It was essential for Sachin to talk about him as they had lived this dream together.

Master was no different when it came to love. Anjali Tendulkar, a doctor who gave up her career to spend the rest of her life with Sachin. He also thanked his in-laws for allowing him to marry Anjali. He thanked her for putting up with all his frustration, and that’s when Anjali broke down, which indeed looked pretty filmy!

The BCCI, which left no wish unfulfilled, was very instrumental during the numerous injuries he had undergone. They supported him during his success and helped him right throughout his career for Indian Cricket. The most important of all was thanking the physio’s who kept his challenging body to keep up with the demanding nature of the game.

The millions of Sachin’s wallpapers and posters used right throughout the globe would not be possible without the photographers. He did have a group photo with all the photographers who were covering that game.

The most important of all, his fans. Never have we failed to cheer him up. Be it a hundred, be it a duck, our motivation for his master class always had and will remain the same. When he said the memories that we had given will always be with him is when the tears started to roll down, and the crowd started chanting the mantra ‘Sachin Sachin….”.

The 25-year journey might have come to a halt, but the happiness and joy that this man had given will always appear fresh in our hearts, and watching you in the All-stars match kindles our childhood memories.
