Toilet Ek Prem Katha is a movie focusing on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious project “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”.
Directed by Shree Narayan Singh
Starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar.
Rating– 2.5/5
Positives– Toilet Ek Prem Katha gives a social message in an entertaining way. Bhumi Pednekar is just wow. She has shown that she has the potential to become a female lead. Akshay Kumar too impresses with his comic timing and his Uttar Pradesh accent. Rest of the supporting cast is strong with their characters specially Sudhir Pandey. Sudhir has shown that he has the skills to be a good actor.
Negatives– The course of the second half grips the movie. While the first half is quite entertaining and brisk, the movie completely loses its plot in the second half. Too many songs placed unnecessarily will bore you.
Synopsis– In spite of living in the 70th year of independence we are still suffering from basic needs like a toilet. Toilet Ek Prem Katha briskly highlights this issue. Akshay Kumar as Keshav steals the show. He lives the role perfectly. Bhumi Pednekar as Jaya is the biggest advantage of the movie. She raises the issue which is being faced by several ladies in our villages. Her dialogue delivery is awesome. Divyendu Sharma, Anupam Kher and other characters too make their presence felt.
Jaya is married to Keshav but she doesn’t have any idea that Keshav doesn’t have toilets in his home. She strongly raises her voice as she won’t like to be ashamed while relieving. Keshav wants to give his support to his wife but Keshav’s father is a traditional man who believes toilet can not be made in a house where there is a kitchen.
Although the movie has strong characters, star power and a catchy script but a time of 2 hours and 35 minutes seem too long for this social issue. Director Shree Narayan Singh has done a good job but few scenes kept us wondering what was the need of it. Editing of the film is not up to the mark which could have made the movie more meaningful and short. Music is the biggest drawback of the movie. Everytime a song erupts, you can check your phone for WhatsApp and Facebook updates.
Final words– Toilet Ek Prem Katha is a good film with a strong social message but it has its drawbacks. Watch it for Akshay, Bhumi, and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
