When performed with full energy, dance is one of those activities that makes you flexible and works like a fitness routine. Also, besides being an alternative to exercise, dance is a worldwide renowned skill. However, if it sounds too classic, let me confirm one more thing: “Dance is happiness”. It’s a way to show your joyfulness even if not to others, to yourself.

We talked to Svetlana, a professional dancer from Sweden, on how to learn dance forms right at home. Here is what she said, “When you dance without hesitation even when you don’t know the steps, it shows how happy you are. Nonetheless, even though dance can be performed however you want, learning to dance means learning the different dance steps and forms to turn this joyful activity into a professional skill.”

Below are the easiest steps to learn the dance at home, and ones that Svetlana recommends.

1. Choose the dance style of your choice

Firstly, it’s important to select a dance form of your choice to start with and there are many excellent popular dance forms such as lyrical, ballet, hip hop, jazz, Bollywood, ballroom, tap, Latin, flamenco, and many more. However, if you are a beginner, select an easy style to learn initially and you can gradually move on to learn other advanced styles.

2. Find a suitable resource to learn

As a next step, you need to search for an appropriate resource to learn because learning a graceful dance requires correct techniques to perform it and when you practice dance with the right techniques and instructions, there are fewer chances to hurt your ligaments or ankles. So, what type of resources can be available at home easily? Well, here comes the need for social media. Even though many dancers post their dance videos on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, they are often not sequential, these are just for entertainment. You can find the right videos or an entire dance tutorial maintained sequentially on YouTube. So, I would recommend searching for a suitable dance tutorial for a renowned dancer. This searching part may take a little time to find the appropriate one but it’s worth it.

3. Make a practice routine and stick to it

Moving on, making a routine is crucial – not only for dancing but anything that you want to learn. When you are done setting up a practice routine for yourself, make sure to stick to it and for this, you need to be very consistent and determined.

4. Warm up and start dancing

As a beginner, it’s possible that your body is not used to dancing moves, so the contraction and stretching in your muscles won’t be common while dancing. This is the reason, why warming up is necessary. Warming up before dancing allows your muscles and ligaments to stretch properly, so your muscles won’t feel stiff anymore and can support you well while dancing.

5. Practice to be a pro!

Consistency, determination, and practice are the keys to being a pro even if it’s dancing. The more you practice, the more you’ll be skilled in dance, and the more your dance steps will shine with grace. And lastly, it takes years of practice to dance like professional dancers, even if you don’t want to be a pro, practice can still make you shine.
