100% organic cotton tampon- What is the difference? If you want a detailed video review of these products, you can refer to the video above.

A regular drugstore tampon is usually made of bleached cotton and rayon mixture. Organic cotton tampons are made with 100% organic cotton, cultivated with proper care and without harsh chemicals, insecticides or pesticides.

They are free of any harmful chemicals, dyes, extra fragrances.

They are bleached with peroxides and are free from dioxin. Dioxin is a carcinogen produced as a byproduct when cotton is bleached with chlorine.

The cotton of regular tampons are generally bleached with chlorine. So, if you are not using organic cotton tampons, probably you’re harming your body.

Why organic cotton tampons?

  • They are environmentally friendly.
  • They are chlorine-free.
  • Organic tampons may lower the risk of TSS.
  • Organic tampons are generally transported about the ingredients.
  • Organic tampons are meant to be biodegradable.
  • Tampons made with 100% organic cotton don’t harm your body nor affect the hormones.
  • Organic tampons are toxin-free.
  • Organic cotton tampons may lighten your period and lower cramps.

They say little knowledge is a dangerous thing. If you’re switching to tampons, you must know the proper way to use them.

How to insert a tampon?

First, wash your hands properly. Then find a comfortable position. You may sit on the toilet with your knees spread a little apart so that you have good access or in a standing position or a partial squat position, whatever gives you comfort.

If your tampon has an applicator

  • Hold the ridge part of the applicator firmly between your thumb and index finger and make sure that the rounded part of the applicator is facing the vaginal opening, not the string.
  • Identify the vaginal opening,
  • Spread the labia with another hand,
  • Insert the applicator tip first inside the vaginal opening.
  • Keep pushing the applicator till the finger holding the applicator at the ridge point touches the vaginal opening.
  • Now gently push the plunger all the way in to release the tampon inside the vagina.
  • Now remove the applicator and the plunger out.
  • Do not pull or tug the string.

If you’re using tampons without an applicator

In this case, you will be using your finger instead of the applicator to push the tampon inside your vagina.

  • Wash your hands properly.
  • Unwrap the tampon from the packaging,
  • Sit in your comfortable position,
  • Use your finger as the plunger.

If you want to know more, you can refer to this fantastic video:

Remember, do not push the tampon inside your body vertically. The tampon should be pushed 45 degrees towards your lower back.

How to remove it?

Wash your hands properly. Sit in your comfortable position, gently pull the end of the tampon string in a downwards direction and remove it from your body.

Warning!

Don’t try pulling out dry tampons from your body, and it will cause rubbing and irritation.

Don’t use more than one tampon at a time. You may forget to remove them from the vagina, and if these tampons are inside your body for long, they will cause discomfort and may cause severe problems.

A tampon can be used for a maximum of up to 8 hours. After removing your tampon, wrap it with toilet paper, throw it into the dustbin, and do not flush it.

Break the taboos

There’re some myths, or you can say taboos are there regarding tampons. Let’s break them!

I may lose my virginity!

“Virginity is beyond hymen”.

The hymen may get stretched or torn or remain intact while using it.

Your hymen may get torn during sports, horse riding, cycling also.

Don’t go for tampons if you’re too concerned about your hymen.

It will get lost inside my vagina!

No, it won’t!

There is a narrow opening of the uterus into the vagina called ‘Cervix’. The tampon can’t pass it. These tampons may get stuck deeper but will never be lost inside your body.

It will cause difficulty while peeing!

No, it will not cause any difficulties.

You should know the proper anatomy of the female genital organ. There are three openings.

  1. At the front, there is a urethral opening,
  2. Then, at the middle, vaginal opening,
  3. Lastly, the anal opening, the posterior one.

As the two openings are different, you can easily pee with the tampon inside your body. You may push the tampon string slightly apart, so it does not get wet.

Some of the Frequently Asked Questions

Also, there are a few questions that I would like to address here.

Do you need lubrication while inserting it?

No, you don’t need any lubrication while inserting the tampon. The menstrual blood itself gives enough lubrication to it.

Can you have penetrative intercourse with a tampon inside?

To have penetrative intercourse with a tampon inside your body is not a good idea. It may insert the tampon deeper into the vagina, and it may cause problems.

It is causing discomfort and pain. What should I do?

You may have TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome), other bacterial growth, or maybe another kind of problem.

Or perhaps you’re inserting or removing it in the wrong way. If you’re having pain while inserting or removing it, immediately visit a gynaecologist.

What is TSS?

TSS or Toxic Shock Syndrome is a severe acute condition caused by the release of toxins by a variety of Staphylococcus bacteria.

If you use a tampon for long (maximum up to 8 hours) or used the tampon with a dirty hand, the bacteria may grow and release toxins inside the bloodstream.

But the rate of the affected people because of the tampon is very low.

Symptoms:

Fever

The symptoms may be:

  • Fever
  • Diarrhoea
  • Vomiting
  • Low blood pressure
  • Rashes
  • Headache

So, maintain hygiene and change your tampon every 4-8 hours.

This is some moderate idea about the tampon I wanted to share and 9+ best organic tampons of my choice. More than 81% of women all around the world use tampon.

If you feel comfortable using them, go ahead, make the change and use the organic tampon and you may also go for menstrual cups also for a better change to your body and the environment.

Have safer and more comfortable periods!!
