More than just a game, Cricket for Indians is a religion respected and celebrated by everyone and a match that unites Indians notwithstanding caste, creed, or sex.
1. IPL Vibes
IPL has changed the landscape of cricket in India. Moreover, IPL has been able to bring out numerous talents into the national team.
It also has become one of the richest tournaments in the world. On numerous occasions, the international cricket council and national cricket teams avoid cricketing fixtures during IPL.
2. BCCI Planting Trees
BCCI is the richest cricketing board in the world and during the IPL, the Board decided to go green this season and has decided to plant trees for every dot ball.
Jay Shah who is the Honorary Secretary of BCCI took to tweeter to announce the same and tweeted that the board is collaborating with Tata companies for planting 500 saplings for every dot ball in every playoff match.
He also thanked both Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super King for 84 dot balls in the match. As promised, 42000 saplings will be planted. Jay Shah also taunted the audience asking who said T20 is the only game of batsmen.
His original tweet reads,
“We are proud to partner @TataCompanies in planting 500 saplings for each dot ball in the @IPL playoffs. Qualifier 1 #GTvsCSK got 42,000 saplings, thanks to 84 dot balls.
Who says T20 is a batter’s game? Bowlers’ it’s all in your hands #TATAIPLGreenDots 🌳 🌳 🌳

3. Play Off Matches
It appears that BCCI will be required to plant around 10 lakh trees by the end of the playoff matches. A total of 3 playoff matches will be played and these are further divided into one qualifier and two eliminators.
The qualifier match is played between the first two teams in the standing post-league matches. The match for the first eliminator is played between the third and fourth in the standing.
Eliminator’s winners will meet the loser of the qualifiers. Finally, the winner of this game will qualify for the finals.
During this IPL, CSK, GT, MI, and LSG have qualified for the playoff and CSK defeated GT in the qualifiers. MI will be meeting LSG in the first eliminators.
The winner will take on GT in the second eliminator and the winner of the eliminator shall meet CSK in the finals.
4. Fans’ Reaction
The fans did not leave this opportunity to troll the underperformer of this IPL.
They appeared to take a dig at both the MI captain and LSG captain for their poor strike rate.
One of the fans, The Skin Doctor tweets,”
“I wish KL Rahul was fit enough to play for LSG in the playoffs. The first over itself would have yielded 3000 saplings. The environment will miss its most trusted soldier when it mattered the most.”

Notwithstanding, this initiative is considered a step towards going green. Finally, will BCCI fulfill its promises and plant so many saplings? But, only time can tell.
