The art of balancing fitness and self-care while tiptoeing into living a good life is not, though; all I needed was patience. I was diagnosed with PCOD, a condition seen explicitly in teenagers and affected females only; the discrepancy in periods followed by stomachache and unexplained weight gain or sudden weight loss occurs and causes pimples. This diagnosis shook me and happened to me mainly because I relied on oily street foods too much and too often. Now, conditions like these frequently are consulted with either a long-term dependency on medications or limiting oily foods and finding a balanced regime of good exercise and self-care routines.
I took up the fitness challenge in 2019, and needless to say, I reduced my body mass index by around 10 pounds over 14 months and maintained an average height-to-weight ratio.
1. My Resort to Home Workouts for Fitness
Unlike many professionals, I did not join a gym. Instead, I decided to depend on my thorough research on workouts and follow YouTube. I listed some exercises that release serotonin and sweat and make the mind function in sync. I also remember to start slowing at all costs.
- Warm-up: Before any workout, take 5 minutes of deep breathing. Slow down for a second and feel grateful for the comfort life has provided you. After this, opt for 5-10 minutes of jogging to increase your heart rate. Then, do some head, arm and leg swings and hip circles.
- Cardio: Cardio is best known to increase heart rate and reduce fat from the body. These are best known to keep hearts healthy and more vigorous. In the beginning, follow YouTube, do 5 minutes of cardio training, and follow any trainer, but it strictly depends on your body’s ability.
- Strength training: This workout increases strength in a muscle group. There is no such thing as spot reduction; it is only a workout that pushes a set of muscles primarily and secondarily, which results in increased strength. Exercises like push-ups, planks, lunges, and squats, as well as using resistance bands, dumbbells, and barbells, are useful, too.
- Yoga stretches: 10 minutes of cooldown is a must after every workout. The muscles need to recover.
2. Pointers for Self-Care
Working out is not the only resort toward mind-body connection.
- Daily Meditation.
- Digital detox.
- Healthy eating habits.
- I am picking up a hobby.
- I am getting enough sleep each night.
- Hydrate yourselves.
- Follow a nigh-time skincare routine for better skin glow.
3. Challenges Faced towards the Balance
- The modern-day takes away a lot of quality time because of excessive career loads.
- Technology controlling life is also a big part of the new challenge.
- Continuous competition towards life.
Closing Remarks
Finding the balance between fitness and self-care can be an overwhelming task. Often, one jumps onto another, proving to be unproductive. It is different for every individual, and everyone needs to follow their liking.
Over the years, I learned one key factor: listening to my body, resting correctly, and limiting myself to just physical appearance is a mistake. Taking mind and emotional connections, depending solely on rigorous exercise, is not the critical resort people often look up to.
