When it comes to mind to watch videos on any platform, What is it? It is YouTube, a video streaming service by Google. It provides a wide range of videos from different areas. When playing a YouTube video, You need to perform many operations like play, pause, forward, rewind, and many more.

But to perform these operations, we generally go manual. It takes time. There comes a question in mind. Is there any tool that can make our operations fast? So, the answer is YouTube keyboard shortcuts.

YouTube keyboard shortcuts make it easy to perform various operations. These YouTube hotkeys can save you time.

To open shortcuts, you must go to the profile picture in the top-right of the YouTube window. From the dropdown, select the shortcuts. It will show you operations with the respective button press.

Another way to open it is “shift +?”. You will get a hidden list of YouTube shortcuts for your favorite websites. You can also find the shortcuts by hovering over the specific buttons. It will present the related shortcut key. For example, if your mouse hovers over the sound icon, you will see ‘Mute(m)’; with this shortcut, you can mute the sound. You have to press m to mute the sound.

1.1. Toggle Play, Pause, and Mute –

When a YouTube video is playing, you can use Key K to pause and play. The video can also be paused by pressing the space bar.

You can press Key M to mute the playback sound.

1.2. Rewind and Fast Forward –

To go 10 secs backward in the video, you can use the Key J to make it go reverse. You can also use the left arrow for 5 secs backward.

To go 10 secs forward in the video, you can use the Key L. It fast-forwards the video. You can also use the right arrow for 5 sec fast forward.

1.3. Previous and Next Video –

If playing one video from one playlist after another, play the previous video by pressing the Key P(shift +p).

If playing one video from one playlist after another, play the next video by pressing the Key N(shift +n).

2. Caption or Subtitle YouTube Keyboard Shortcuts

2.1. Toggle Caption On/off –

You can use the Key C to turn captions on and off.

You can use Key O and Key W to change the subtitle’s text and window opacity.

You can utilize the + and – to increase and decrease the font size of the subtitle, respectively.

3.1. The Previous Frame and Next Frame (Pause Video) –

You can revert to a frame by pressing the Key ‘,’ (comma). Each time you press the comma, the video moves backward a frame.

You can forward to a frame by pressing the Key ‘.’ (period). Each time you press period, the video moves ahead a frame.

3.2. To Advance a Video to a Specific Point –

You can use YouTube keyboard shortcuts to seek the specific point in the video. It is a skipping technique. Video advances and skips according to the numeric key press. If you press number Key 5, the video will advance 50%. You can use all the number keys to jump and skip.

You can press the Home Button and End Button to go to the beginning and end of the video, respectively. You can also press Zero to go to the beginning of the video.

4. General YouTube Keyboard Shortcuts Which You Always Use

4.1. Toggle Full-Screen Mode and Theater Mode –

To switch the screen from normal to full-screen mode and vice-versa, press the Key F.

By pressing the Key T, you can turn the screen into theater mode, and pressing again will make the screen normal.

4.2. Toggle Mini Player –

You can watch the video at the bottom right corner of the window by pressing Key I. While watching the video, you may need to browse other videos. You can parallelly perform the browsing of videos and can switch to the mini-player by pressing the same key again. You can press Escape Key to close the mini-player.

5.1. Decrease Playback Rate –

To decrease the video playback speed by 0.25 points, you can use the SHIFT + (<)Left Angular Bracket on the Keyboard. You can also use the settings button to perform the same video playback rate operation. The custom option also reduces the playback speed by 0.25 points each time.

5.2. Increase Playback Rate –

To increase the video playback speed by 0.25 points, you can use the SHIFT + (>)Right Angular Bracket on the Keyboard. You can use the settings button also to perform the same video playback rate operation. The custom option also reduces the playback speed by 0.25 points each time.

5.3. Seek the Chapter –

Many YouTube videos, like educational videos, are divided into chapters. You can jump between chapters to skip a specific chapter. You can use CTRL + Left Arrow to go to the previous chapter and CTRL + Right Arrow for the next chapter.

5.4. Video Volume Adjustment –

You can use the arrow key to perform video volume operations. You can use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to increase and decrease volume by 5 %.

6. YouTube Spherical Video Hotkeys

6.1. Pan Orientation –

If a video is 360°, you can use a different orientation to watch the YouTube video. W, A, S, and D  keys are used for pan up, left, down, and right, respectively.

You can also resize it to 360°. You can use the + on the numeric pad/ Right Square Bracket (]) to zoom in and thenon the numeric pad or Left Square Bracket ([) to zoom out.

6.2. Navigation Control –

When the player is focused, you can use Tab and Shift+Tab to navigate forward and backward, respectively. You can use Enter to select.
