Though living a zero-waste lifestyle is highly connected with eco-friendly or sustainable living, there is also a huge contribution of basic 7 R’s that are extremely helpful for embarking on a journey to live a zero-waste lifestyle. Mentioned below are these basic 7 R’s.
1. Rethink
Rethinking is an approach that suggests you to think always twice. For instance, when you see something amazing while shopping and stop buying that item, you need to hold on for a while and take time to think whether the thing you are buying is really worth your money investment. Also, ask yourself if you will use it or not, and if you are buying it under some charming influence then it will just become a showcase piece in the future and will be of no use.
2. Refuse
Start refusing the things that are not sustainable or eco-friendly such as the plastic carry bags that many people use for grocery shopping. Use products that will do less or no harm to the environment such as organic or paper bags.
3. Reduce
Declutter the unnecessary choices to reduce the consumption of plastic-based stuff. And not just plastic, reducing is the way to live a minimal life, which is more sorted than a chaotic life filled with unwanted and useless stuff. However, the ultimate method to embrace the power of ‘Reduce’ is to buy less and waste less.
4. Reuse
Many people have a habit of collecting things, which is good but when it comes to collecting, people usually hold on to the stuff and prefer not using them, which eventually goes to waste. So, instead of storing and throwing away the collected stuff, you can simply try to reuse everything. In short, reuse refers to the meaning of upcycling that can be done with almost every material.

5. Repair
Rather than throwing away the clothes due to the tiniest holes or removed stitching, try to apply your sewing skills to those clothes and follow the path of repairing. Repairing items will produce less waste and allow you to take a step towards sustainability.
6. Regift
Regifting is a nice process, which is not bad at all. It’s such a lovely feeling when we receive gifts. However, sometimes the gifts are repetitive or it’s possible that you already own one of that kind. It won’t be rude to pass it on to someone who can use the gift. However, the one thing you need to ensure here is to always give gifts to the person who will cherish them and make good use of them. Don’t give presents to those people who will eventually throw them away or will never use them as they will become useless and come out as a waste.

7. Recycle (Rot)
Recycling is the final stage when you can’t possibly make good use of some items. However, recycling is not only about plastic recycling, it also means composting here. It requires machines and factories to recycle plastic or other metallic materials, but composting is the thing that you can do from your organic waste, which is mostly produced in the kitchen.
