The teaser trailer of ‘Fantastic Beasts and where to find them’ has arrived. And it is perfect!
The end of Harry Potter marked the end of the magical era. ‘Fantastic Beasts’ is offering you a chance to go back to the world of magic. The trailer gives a tiny glimpse of the Potter Universe. So when you hear someone whisper Lumos Maxima in dark you are instantly back in Hogwarts and it feels like you’re home. This is what excites me the most about Fantastic Beasts; a chance to step out of this boring muggle world.
The story gives out a Harry Potter vibe, and honestly, you keep waiting for familiar faces.
Fantastic Beasts is J. K. Rowling’s debut as a screenplay writer, and David Yates directs it. Eddie Redmayne plays the protagonist, Newt Scamander. It also stars Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Samantha Morton, Jon Voight and Ron Perlman. The movie will release on 18th November 2016 which already feels like a million years away.
Upon returning to Harry Potter for the first time since 2007, Rowling commented – “I always said I would only revisit the wizarding world if I had an idea that I was really excited about, and this one is.”
The movie is set in a period that is seventy years before Harry Potter’s birth, this time in New York. We see the American version of the Ministry of Magic – Magical Congress of the United States of America. The protagonist, Newt Scamander, is a ‘Magi-Zoologist’ ( I think zoologist with superpowers).
He arrives in New York with a briefcase full of dangerous Magical creatures and their habitats. When some of these creatures escape into the muggle world, Newt is blamed for the mishap.
The book ‘Fantastic Beasts and where to find them’ was published in 2001. It is not a novel or a spin-off in the true sense. It is actually a textbook. ‘Fantastic Beasts and where to find them’ written by Newt Scamander. The book is also Harry’s first-year textbook at Hogwarts. It is an amazing book to read.
It’s a legitimate textbook with a forward by Dumbledore, a proper introduction by the author, and information on the A-Z of fantastic beasts in 42 pages. This book demonstrates the detailed history of the wizarding world. In my opinion, giving a history to something is the most imaginative and creative way of making it real.
Fantastic Beasts refers to things like the creation of the Werewolf Register in 1947 and ban on experimental breeding of creatures in 1965 which makes it seem utterly real. This book contains brief information on several magical creatures introduced in the Potter series, like Acromantula (Hagrid’s giant pet spider) and Hippogriff (Buckbeak).
The textbook also has funny doodles and witty comments by Harry and Ron. Other than that it has no connection to the Harry Potter storyline. So, it is not exactly a prequel even though it takes place in the same universe. This movie is, however, not based on a book. It is an original screenplay written by Rowling.
“Writer J. K. Rowling
Invites you to return
To the Wizarding World”
