Aiming For Cognitive Fitness

If you are too used to the grind mentality, you’ll probably agree that it seems to be losing its appeal and its shine somewhat. People are starting to realise that burning out towards a goal actually isn’t the flex it used to be. Instead, there is something of a shift towards what we might call cognitive fitness – which means keeping your brain sharp, resilient and adaptable. Think of it like going to the gym, but for your mind. This means that you need to be intentional about your information diet, manage your stress response and actually give your brain downtime too.

If you have a mindfulness practice, that can be a really powerful way of making sure you are controlling your mind more and making more of it, so this is something that is going to be really important for you to consider all in all. A strong mindfulness practice is the kind of thing that you are going to really have to work on, and you might be amazed at what it can do for you.

With that in mind, make it a daily practice if you want to get the best results, and make sure that you are doing all you can to really make the most of it. Even just two minutes of purposefully paying attention to the breath is enough to make radical changes to your mind, especially if you do it every day.

When it comes to learning and figuring stuff out, you really need to make sure you are questioning what you think you know. It’s amazing how much stuff you end up just believing without really questioning it. A good practice for anyone who wants to use their mind as a sharper tool is to start questioning what they think they know. If you can do this, you are going to find that it really makes a radical difference to how your mind works, and you’ll be able to adopt a much healthier approach in general to thinking.
