Italy had always been on my list—not just for the art and history, but for the beauty I’d heard from fellow travelers. With its ancient ruins, world-class food and scenery, it’s no wonder 60 million tourists visit Italy every year (and that’s for the cultural spots like museums), making it one of the most visited countries in the world.

1. Rome: Where History Comes to Life
Rome should be your first stop—and what a start it will be! Walking through the Colosseum, you can almost hear the ancient crowds. The Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica are mind-blowing, especially seeing the Sistine Chapel ceiling in person will change your life.
What stands out: Ancient and modern life. One minute you’re eating gelato in a piazza, the next you’re standing beside 2,000-year-old ruins.
2. Venice: A City Like No Other
Venice feels like stepping into a painting. The canals, bridges and gondolas made the city seem surreal. Take a water taxi along the Grand Canal and visit St. Mark’s Basilica—it’s a work of art.
Pro tip: Visit in the shoulder season (April or October) to avoid crowds and high prices. Even the locals say Venice is more magical when it’s quiet.

3. Florence: A Paradise for Art Lovers
Florence is called the “Cradle of the Renaissance”, and it’s easy to see why. From the Uffizi Gallery to Michelangelo’s David, the art here is incredible. You will love wandering through the cobblestone streets and discovering hidden courtyards and charming cafes.
You can also spend hours in art museums, but what really will make you fall in love with Florence is the view from Piazzale Michelangelo at sunset—stunning.
4. Milan: Fashion Meets Culture
Milan will surprise you. Yes, it’s Italy’s fashion capital, but it also has so much history. Visit the Duomo di Milano, one of the most beautiful cathedrals you will ever see, and here you will find Da Vinci’s The Last Supper.
Then there’s the shopping. From high-end fashion in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II to trendy boutiques, it is a retail heaven.
5. Naples: A City of Flavour and Colour
Naples is raw, vibrant and delicious. This is the birthplace of pizza, and yes—it really is better here. Explore the narrow streets of the historic centre and take a day trip to Pompeii, just 40 minutes away.
The coastal views were stunning, and Naples is one of the most authentic and unpolished cities in Italy—full of life and energy.
6. Amalfi Coast: Italy’s Coastal Gem
Driving along the Amalfi Coast will surely be one of the highlights of your trip. The road winds through cliffs with views of the Mediterranean. Towns like Positano and Ravello are postcard-perfect with colourful buildings and crystal clear waters.
Relax on the beach, eat fresh seafood and take way too many photos. It’s easy to see why this area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

7. Lake Como: Serene Beauty and Luxury
Lake Como is a peaceful escape. Surrounded by mountains and dotted with villas, it will feel like stepping into a fairytale. Stay in the town of Bellagio and take a boat tour across the lake – it’s a truly magical experience.
Fun fact: George Clooney owns a villa here and I totally get why—it’s one of the most peaceful places you’ll ever see.
8. Italian Alps: A Snowy Paradise
If you are a nature lover, you cannot miss the Italian Alps. Whether it’s skiing in winter or hiking in summer, this region has year-round adventure. Visit Cortina d’Ampezzo and the views of the snow-capped mountains will be breathtaking.
Even if you’re not into sports, the fresh air, alpine villages and cozy mountain lodges make this region worth a visit.
9. Tuscany: Rolling Hills and World Class Wine
Tuscany will be everything you imagined and much more—vineyards, olive groves and golden sunsets. The food, wine and relaxed pace of life here are the perfect break from city hopping. The views here are also incredible.
10. Cinque Terre: Colourful Villages by the Sea
The Cinque Terre villages are perched on cliffs along the Ligurian Sea, each one more beautiful than the last. Take a hike on the trail between Monterosso and Vernazza; the views are breathtaking.
The combination of colourful houses, turquoise water and fresh seafood makes this one of the highlights of our Italian adventure.
Endnote: Why You Will Fall in Love with Italy
Italy will give you the perfect mix of history, culture, nature and of course, food. Each place has its own character, and everywhere you go, people are warm and friendly.
Whether you like ancient ruins, Renaissance art, stunning coastlines or culinary delights, Italy has something for everyone.
