About ‘Tiger Nageswara Rao’
The village people say that Nageswara used to rob the rich, who mistreated the poor, and then allocate the stolen wealth among the poor. Thus, he helped the underprivileged and fought for their rights.
However, the police of the village of Stuartpuram strongly deny the fact that Nageswara did help the needy. Additionally, they also showed disagreement with people who showed sympathy for Nageswara.
Police also said that criminals like Nageswara should be punished instead of showing sympathy. Because it will help to discourage others from doing such illegal activities.
Moreover, social workers said that one should also think about who is being robbed; they should understand their pain if their money gets stolen.
Senior police officers who knew Nageswara for a long time said that he was an expert thief who often entered houses at night to rob rich people.
Moreover, Nageswara was involved in many big robberies. Such as the Chennai jailbreak case in 1976, the bank robbery in Banganapalli in 1974, and many more. According to resources, besides Nageswara and his brother, there were ten more people involved in this gang robbery.
They robbed thirty-five lakhs of money and fourteen lakhs of gold. To distribute the stolen money and jewelry among themselves, the thieves went to a village.
But police surrounded the village, and Prabhakar, brother of Nageswara, had to surrender. While Nageswara ran away.
He died in an encounter in 1987. Although after this incident, locals came out on the road to protest.
