Little Things: How Two Silly Purchases Made My Week

A few days back, when I went into a stationery store, my eyes wandered around the shop. I’m always fascinated by newly arrived stationery. Suddenly, my eyes landed on the jar full of glass marbles.

My whole childhood, I saw kids with those beautiful blue, green, and clear marbles, and I always wanted to buy them, but I never did.

I asked the vendor for them, and he was like, “Now you want to play with them at this age?” I answered,  “Uncle, I always wanted to buy them.” I bought only 5 marbles, but the excitement that it gave me was unmatched by any expensive thing that I own.

Cut to a few days later, I went to the same shop. My eyes wandered and landed on something new I had never seen before. It was some test tube-like thing and had small pieces similar to confetti paper.

It was paper soap, interesting…See, I know it was childish, but it was so cute. But this time I tried not to give in to my desire, and wanted to act all mature.

However, for the next 3 days I kept thinking about them, so finally I gave in and bought that fancy paper soap worth 40₹, which smells a little weird. Anyhow, who cares? Ever since I bought it, I’m excited.

I have planned that when it’s empty, I will fill it up with those marbles- it’s going to be so cool.

So what does this mean? It’s not about the two silly things; it’s about self-care and how these little things brought me happiness. Does that make me childish or ignorant? Absolutely not.

Why? Because this is our inner child that we suppressed under the name of maturing and standing up to social standards.

“People will look at me”, “People will judge,” and if they do, let them be.

Because there are billions of humans on this earth, you can’t live up to everyone’s validation. The most important person is YOU. Your happiness matters more than someone’s 5 minutes of judgment towards you.

No one gives you that much importance as you can give it to yourself.

So, go ahead and do that silly thing you always wanted to do, and you were limiting yourself because of “someone.” This way, you could help and love yourself.

I have added it to my self-care ritual. When will you?
