Pasta is a super delicious dish that people all around the world love to eat. And the best part of this dish is that it can be eaten at breakfast, lunch, dinner, or whenever you like. Further, different people like to eat different types of pasta such as spaghetti, macaroni, fettuccine, and so on. So, which kind do you like the most? Well, regardless of the kind of pasta you like and its cooking style, another thing that makes pasta more delicious is preparing it from the very beginning, which is from flour. Mentioned below are some easy steps to prepare pasta from scratch.
1. Begin with preparing dough
Firstly, you’ll need a large countertop surface to spread the pasta dough, so clean the entire surface well. Then, take a medium-sized bowl and add one cup of all-purpose flour with one teaspoon of salt in it. Depending on the taste, different types of flour can be used to make fresh pasta at home such as semolina flour. All-purpose flour is a better option who don’t want to confuse themselves.
However, take a beaten egg and add it to the center of the bowl with the flour. Further, you can add up to two tablespoons of water in the bowl when required and mix it well, so it can form a dough.
2. Knead the dough
It’s time to use your clean-up surface to knead the dough. Kneading must be done until the dough becomes smooth, which usually takes around 3-4 minutes of continuous hard work. After kneading, wrap up the dough with wrapping foil and put it aside to rest for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
3. Make the balls from the dough
Next, deepening the amount of dough you have, make 3-4 large balls out of it before moving on to the next step. Ensure that it has a smooth and soft texture neither too dry nor too wet.
4. Roll out the pasta
It’s time to roll out the balls that you have cut out from the dough. Rolling can be done with the traditional method by using a roller with your hands or you can do this with a pasta maker. The pros of using a pasta machine to roll out pasta is its layering. Pasta rolled out with a machine has the accurate thickness or thin structure that can be done with a roller as well but you need to be careful as the dough is soft, so if you press a little more, your rolling layer might become extra thin which can spoil the shaping.
5. Finishing touches!
Lastly, after rolling out the pasta, you can either turn your rolled layer into a fettuccine pasta which can be done by simply cutting it into longer slices, or give any shape of your choice and be proud of your pasta-making skills. Once you are done with shaping, let it dry and freeze for a while before cooking it up freshly.
