Coloring is so underrated that many people just take it as a mere hobby or a fun time pass for kids but what if I tell you that it’s a lot more? Coloring is not only for entertainment, from kids to adults, it is for everyone. While it is a hobby for many people that they like to do in their free time, it also works like a therapy for many people, and there is nothing better than mandalas for coloring.

Even if you have never tried coloring mandalas before, it is definitely worth your first try. And so we asked Icy Tales readers for some of their favorite mandalas, and what they mean. And here are some of the designs they picked, and why.

1. Know your color theory and choose some vibrant colors accordingly

Rai, one of our readers, tell us that the journey of coloring mandalas begins with the selection of an excellent combination of colors that you have chosen. Meanwhile, one thing that must be followed carefully is sticking to the colors. Even if you think that the colors are not giving a pretty look initially, make sure that you don’t distracted and use different colors in the middle of coloring as it may not just ruin your mandala coloring but can also spoil your mood. Also, vibrant colors give your drawing a more illuminated and neon-like look.

2. Follow an inside-out coloring pattern

Roger tells us that mandalas need a good design to be attractive, and we can agree. Even though there are many approaches to color mandalas, one of the most recommended ones here is an inside-out pattern as it has a great impact on the mind. How? When you start coloring from the center of the inside pattern, firstly, a sense of progress is gained as you move forward along with a sense of accomplishment when you finish the last pattern.

3. Feel free to leave white spaces

Joshita loves this design, and we can tell why. People often think that leaving a section white leads to an incomplete coloring session. Well, it is actually the opposite as white is also a color that represents peace and sometimes leaving white spaces can lead to a more meaningful and calming mandala pattern. So, I will suggest you feel free to leave white spaces without hesitating.

4. Listen to your instincts and follow them

Coloring mandalas is not about completing the patterns, it’s all about following and trusting your own instincts and I guess this is why mandala-coloring can work like a therapist. Before starting with anything, the most crucial part of life is to trust yourself and you can learn this from coloring mandalas.

5. Try different tools for coloring and polishing skills

Another thing you can try is to play with new coloring tools that will allow you to learn something new and polish your skills. Instead of just using coloring pencils, you can also try colored pens, gel pens, sketch pens, crayons, and even watercolor brush pens. Using different tools allows you to have varieties in each mandala pattern, which eventually contributes to improving your self-esteem.
