Rachel Green may have been a spoiled little rich girl when we first met her, but she had the best character arc development as the episodes progressed.
In September 1994, NBC aired a sitcom, “FRIENDS“, created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, which lasted 10 seasons till May 2004. The show starred Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer who played the roles of Rachel Green, Monica Geller, Phoebe Buffay, Joey Tribbiani, Chandler Bing, and Ross Geller, respectively.
The show revolves around these six friends living in Manhattan. The show was a huge hit. The final episode, released on May 6, 2004, was watched by around 52.5 million American viewers, making it the fifth most-watched series finale in television history AND the most-watched television episode of the ’00 to ’10 decade.
Every character is unique. From sensible Ross to flirtatious Joey, responsible Monica to quirky Phoebe and of course, the hilariously sarcastic Chandler. But my favorite would have to be Rachel Green. She is a fashion enthusiast and Monica Geller’s childhood best friend. She absolutely adores shopping. There are many reasons why so many fans love her.
1. Rachel Green Wasn’t Afraid to Get Down and Dirty
Rachel Green may have been a spoiled little rich girl when we first met her, but as the years went on, she loosened up, and we often saw her holding her own with the boys and hanging out with them like a boss. She may have been picked last in the football episode, but she DID manage to make a great catch in the end, lest we forget.
2. She Was a Hell of A Cook (Okay, Not Really, but She Sure Tried Her Hardest!)
We didn’t see it often, but who can forget the infamous Thanksgiving trifle? “I mean, what’s not to like? Custard, good. Jam, good. Meat, GOOOD!” Quite an adventurous and daringly unique first try indeed. First-time cooks can easily relate to how hard it is.
3. Her Sweet Style
She stormed into our lives in a wedding dress, resembling a rather unfortunate drowned duck, but she went on to show us that she could pull off just about anything. Her attractive and innocent visage, her dainty figure were all perfectly complimented by her sweet mannerisms.
4. She Was More Intelligent than They Gave Her Credit For
Sure, Ross was a paleontologist with a PhD, and Chandler was an intelligent and successful…whatever he was. But Rachel was the only one to realize that baby Emma’s first word was a real thing. Like, come on. Who doesn’t know what ‘gleba’ means?! She is a Beauty with a Brain. Her successful journey in fashion without any formal training or education in the field is a testament to her natural talent.
5. She Was Ross’ Lobster
They were on a break, and they weren’t on a break. Who cares! We all knew right from the first season that these two were meant for each other. We were glad to see the back of Paolo, Joshua, Tag and all the other losers Rachel once dated, and we rejoiced at the beautiful moment at Ross and Emily’s wedding that was ‘I, Ross, take thee, Rachel’. It just goes on to show, you can’t fight lobster love.
6. She Got Off the Plane
You cried. You definitely cried. We all cried. This is why we love Rachel Green by a mile and then some; she got off the plane!
7. She Had a Great Sense of Humor
Chandler is supposed to be ‘the funny one’ and Phoebe, ‘the kooky one‘, but Ray-Ray Green definitely had some epic moments too. Her sarcasm, passionate comebacks and retorts often had us clutching our stomachs with laughter. And how can we forget her famous “NOOOOO.”? That one word deserves a special mention here!
Beautiful, brave, and sweet Rachel Green makes you fall for her right off the bat. Her unique style was admired worldwide, and she was a motivation to all women. She is a self-made woman, and her character certainly came a long way. Don’t try to mess with her, and she’ll Unagi your legs off!
