In recent years, concerns about sustainable traveling and living have significantly increased. One of the aspects that cause harm to our environment is our traveling, whether within the locality or outside our region. As travelers, we are responsible for taking care of our environment and minimizing the use of harmful products that affect the environment’s safety.

By adopting eco-friendly habits and making sustainable choices, we can protect our environment while enjoying adventures. Below are several practical tips for sustainable travel.

1. Selecting Eco-friendly Accommodations

We often make reservations before reaching the destination, so choosing accommodations that support sustainability, such as eco-hotels or eco-lodges is crucial. You can look for the Green Globe or LEED certifications to ensure the place follows sustainability measures. Also, staying at locally owned shelters is better for sustaining the local economy around you.

2. Use of Public Transportation

Sustainable traveling can be adopted by lowering the use of private transportation. Instead of domestic flights or private vehicles, public transport such as trains, trams, and buses helps save energy and fuel, which also contributes to protecting our environment. Also, it will allow you to indulge in the local culture around you and interact with your co-travelers.

3. Reducing Plastic Waste

The most crucial issue for the environment is plastic waste, especially in places that are popular among tourists. So, to minimize the use of plastic during travel, tourists should carry reusable water bottles and shopping bags, including coffee mugs that can be refilled again. Also, lowering the use of one-time usable plastic items like toiletries or straws can help reduce plastic waste.

4. Conserving Energy and Water

Like everything else, saving energy and water is also our responsibility, so what measures can be taken to do this? Taking shorter showers at your accommodations and switching off the lights and air-conditioners when not in use contribute to conserving energy. These actions may sound small, but they can save the environment while adopting sustainable traveling.

5. Using Motorless Transportation

Many people rent cars even to reach small distances, which should be avoided. Why rent a car for short distances that can be covered by walking or simply cycling? Well, it’s true! Cycling and walking are two eco-friendly choices that can be considered to cover short distances that do not harm our environment. Cycling is also a fun way to enjoy natural beauty during vacations.

6. Do Not Disturb Wildlife

Disturbing wildlife by feeding animals, going near them, or trying to play with them often affects their natural habitats. It is essential to know that we should respect wildlife and only look for them from a safe distance without interrupting their natural behavior. Also, always follow regulations and guided trails along with the safety measures.

Further, adopting sustainable traveling habits doesn’t ruin the fun of traveling. It only means that people can enjoy their adventures and travel by adopting eco-friendly habits.
