The expansion of the Security Council will make India a tough competitor for a permanent position in the discourse at present. New Delhi praises The General Assembly’s judgment for being “path-breaking” or “historical.”
The UN General Assembly selected the text-based negotiations to carry out the Security Council Reforms, and India greeted this with open hands.
Asoke Mukerji, India’s ambassador to the UN, commented that this was the most progressive and positive step. During the last seven years, there had only been verbal statements denied or disputed times or restored their decisions and activities.
Nevertheless, China, the US, and Russia averted the text, which is an effort to prevent India from gaining this global body’s permanent membership. After the UN members agree on the draft, it will be placed at the General Assembly to acquire two-thirds of the votes which need to pass.
