1. About the Museum
Neill Cochran’s House was constructed in 1856 by Master builder Abner Cook and was initially designed to be a suburban estate but sooner businesses and stores surrounded the building.
It is the oldest standing slaves’ quarter of Austin and is presently converted into a Museum with furniture preserved of the era it belonged.
The building has witnessed numerous cruelty as slave dwellers, experiencing the Spanish flu, two world wars, and a great depression.
The museum is well-preserved and uses both floors for exhibits.
Vintage furniture fills rooms to talk about the first history of Austin. There are numerous interpretive exhibits on the second floor.
The Neill Cochran House museum can be self-guided and toured at any time of the day.

The museum is located at 2310 San Gabriel Street in Austin, Texas, which is is located at a walkable distance from the campus of UT Austin.

The museum facilitates free parking inside the premises of the museum and you may also park your car along the road.
2.2. Food and Beverages
Food and Beverages are not allowed inside the museum and no facility to buy these exists on the premises.
2.3. Pets
Pets are not allowed inside the museum and enquire with the museum if you have a service animal because entry for the service animal will be denied if the authorities are not informed before arrival.
2.4. Accessibility
The museum is ADA-compliant.
There are ramps for wheelchairs to enter and exit. There is also a wheelchair lift for accessing the second floor.
The lift however is presently under repairs.
