How to delete Wattpad account? But hey before jumping into that, let us first know what is Wattpad. Wattpad, founded in 2006 by Allen Lau and Ivan Yuen is an online literature platform that connects readers and writers from all over the world through their stories.
Anybody can write their own story or personal written works and publish them. And don’t get all sweaty hearing the term literature. Wattpad features what we call popular fiction, for the most part at least. There is no classical literature with difficult-to-understand archaic language that you would study for your honors course. Nope, instead, Wattpad has stories that aim to please and entertain the readers.

As of 2022, there are over 90 million Wattpad users, some of which are writers, most of which are readers, and a lot of which are both. It is also a reading mine to fish out great stories that later feature in TV adaptations. I am pretty sure most of you are aware of the ‘Kissing Booth’ and ‘After’. Yep, these are Wattpad’s original works.
The minimum age eligible to log in and create your Wattpad account is 13. To verify the same, Wattpad may ask for your birth date and other mandatory information. Now that you know what Wattpad is all about, let’s head straight to the topic of discussion.
1. How to Create Your Wattpad Account?
I know, I know I said that we would be heading toward the main topic, but in order to know how to delete your account, you first need to know how to create one here. You open Wattpad or download the app and then follow the given instructions to create your account.
You can create an account using your email, Facebook, or google id. All you have to do is select one of these, then create a unique username and password, and you are done! Needless to say that you cannot have the same username as someone else!
It will ask you to follow through with some prompts like asking your birthdate, whether you are a reader or a writer etc. Even if you choose to be a reader, you can always write stories after creating your account. However, if you have multiple accounts, you cannot shift your story from one to another.

2. How to Delete Wattpad Account?
Deleting your account is pretty simple. Beware though that you can only delete your account through the website and not the app or a mobile browser.
With that out of the way, here are the following instructions for deleting your account.
Step 1
Log in to your Wattpad account.
Step 2
Click on your username present on the upper right-hand corner of the page.
Step 3
Click on settings which will lead you to a screen.
Step 4
You will see an option saying ‘close account‘ on the right-hand side inside a red box. Select that.
Now your account is closed. In order to verify the same, you can try searching for your username. If your account is closed, then you would be led to a ‘user not found page.’

3. How to Permanently Delete a Wattpad Account?
If you try to sign in to your account after this, your account will be reopened and restored, hence, to permanently delete your Wattpad account, do not sign in again. This is because Wattpad first deactivates an account before deleting it.
Another thing to make note of is that when you close your account, you are giving up your username which makes it free for any other user to avail. If somebody else uses that username to create a new account, your original account can never be restored leading to you losing access forever.
4. Why Create a Wattpad account?
Okay, so we know what Wattpad is about but why create an account here? What sets it apart from other online writing platforms? Even so when it is hard to get monetized there. Well, it is the amount of audience present there!
4.1 Wider Audience
Really! Wattpad is the world’s largest writing and reading online community with stories present in more than 50 languages. It is really prominent, has varied genres, and has amazing features for writers.
4.2 Helpful Features and Good Promotion
You can make story notes, add images to boost your readers’ imagination, and can also link youtube videos. This in particular is really awesome as it allows writers to attach songs or soundtracks to their stories giving them an auditory perception.
As it is well known that music invokes emotions and because of the same, the story gets more heartfelt. There is also good promotion done on Wattpad. If you frequently keep on posting chapters, your story gets suggested.
Even if you don’t post as frequently, it still gets suggested to readers and not laying around in a corner with dust over it. Unlike our Instagram posts and reels. If you know, talkin’ about the algorithm here.

4.3 Private and Public Messages
Another great feature is that readers can post comments under every paragraph which gives the writers accurate feedback over a particular section. There is an option for private and public messages too.
You can privately message an author you like and can even follow them. You can also save stories in your library or create a reading list. By doing so, you get notifications whenever any of those stories get an update or if someone replies to your comment.
4.4 Writing Contests
Wattpad also has various writing contests that one can be a part of. Your story also gets ranked among the other stories that share the same genre. If you manage to get higher reads and higher votes, your story gets highly publicized and promoted.
4.5 Monetisation
You can also get monetized by applying to the stars program from where you can get into the paid stories program but this is a topic for another post 😉
