It is made with simple ingredients that can be easily found in your kitchen. Loved by both children and adults, today we are learning, how to make our perfect chocolate syrup with just 4-6 ingredients which will just take not more than 10 minutes to make. To make things easier, we are also mentioning our measurements with just a teaspoon too, so you don’t need to find any measurement tool.
1. How to Make Chocolate Syrup at Home?
1.1. Ingredients Required:
1) Unsweetened Cocoa Powder (25 Gm) ¼ Cup or 9 Levelled Teaspoons
2) Sugar (148 Gm) ¾ Cup or 11 Full Teaspoons
3) Milk (500 Ml) 2 Cup
4) Corn Flour / Corn Starch / Maize Starch (1-2 Teaspoons)
5) a Pinch of Salt
6) Dark Chocolate/any Chocolate Spread (optional)
Collect these ingredients, and we’ll start soon, but before we start making our easy recipe, which is our own homemade chocolate syrup recipe, there are a few points to remember that’ll help you in the process:
1) The secret to getting the perfect chocolate syrup is patience. You need to be patient throughout the process to get the perfect, smooth consistency of the chocolate syrup. It is not just applicable to chocolate syrup but anything related to cooking needs patience.
2) Learning and understanding the basic purpose of each ingredient is also very important, so read each of the steps carefully. Try to understand which ingredient is responsible for what purpose, in case there’s a situation like ‘the chocolate syrup is thick’ or ‘the chocolate syrup looks like water even after all the steps are done then, you should know how can you make it better. Don’t worry we’ll learn it together.
3) Make sure to be careful and work with safety.
1.2. Procedure:
Step 1) Take a medium saucepan, add regular cocoa powder/ unsweetened cocoa powder, add sugar (powdered) (measurements given above) and mix all the ingredients together.
Step 2) Switch on the gas, place a medium saucepan of mixed ingredients on a medium heat flame, add cold milk and whisk until all the sugar dissolves and there’s no lump left.
My advice is to first add 250 gm of milk, and add more milk slowly later while the mixture is on the flame.
Step 3) Stirring regularly is necessary, or it will get burnt.
Step 4) After 2-3 minutes, you’ll see the mixture developing a white layer. Don’t worry, it’s a part of the process.
Step 5) Add vanilla extract. Vanilla extract will give our chocolate syrup an overly sweet smell.
Step 6) Keep stirring, till this time, it will smell delicious and look like chocolate milk.
Step 7) From here, we are on to our next step, Take a teaspoon of milk and add a one-leveled teaspoon of corn flour, mix it together separately and then add into the chocolate milk on the flame and whisk constantly.
*Corn flour is used as a thickening agent. If you want to make the syrup thicker, you can also add two teaspoons of cornstarch.*
Step 8) Don’t panic if the mixture doesn’t get thick even after adding corn flour. Stirring constantly is necessary. When you start to feel that the chocolate milk is at its highest boiling point, reduce the flame as it might get burnt. Later, switch off the flame and let it cool. Stirring occasionally will prevent it from getting burnt.
Step 9) After a few minutes check the consistency of the mixture. Once the consistency gets thicker, Turn off the flame, and let the syrup cool.
*don’t expect it to be perfect in one go, even after following all the steps properly! It might take a few attempts to get perfect consistency, but it will be all worth it.*
Step 10) (optional) Enriching the taste- you can add dark chocolate pieces or Nutella or any other chocolate spread to enrich the taste of your delicious chocolate syrup.
Step 11) After you are satisfied with your own homemade chocolate syrup, you can store the chocolate syrup in an airtight container. For example, an airtight glass container like a glass jar.
Don’t forget to let it cool completely before you go to store chocolate syrup. Otherwise, it might also break the glass jar if the syrup is too hot.
After making sure to perform every step together properly, there you go with your perfect homemade chocolate syrup recipe.
Delicious chocolate sauce is now ready to be served!
