Every time you go to a restaurant, you get a new disposable cup to drink water – one that you throw away the second you are stepping out.

Statistics suggest that Americans use over 16 billion disposable cups every year. Nearly 75 million people in the U.S. used store brand disposable cups last year. Add to it the Styrofoam cups you get from the food you order or take to the picnics you go to.

It’s no secret that we need to do more when it comes to taking care of our planet.

Out of the thousands of inventions every year, the Carey foldable cup may just become my most favourite!

What’s a Carey cup, you ask? It’s an eco-friendly foldable cup, one that can fold down into a small round shaped carry case.

This one hasn’t quite made it to the market yet, though. It’s one of the new Kickstarter projects but holds quite a bit of promise. For one, the premise is something that we all can relate to – an endless stream of disposable cups that goes to landfills every day – and one that we really need to avoid.

The new Kickstarter project can well become one of the more environmentally friendly choices you may make when it comes to using cups. Use Carey for drinking on-the-go – without taking up much space.

You decide what you want to put in –

  • Water?
  • Juice?
  • Coffee?

It all works. You don’t even need a backpack to carry this one. Just put it in your handbag or even in your pocket.

So, what’s special about Carey, the cup? Designed to be super light and portable, the round foldable cup is installed with a sipper to make it easier to drink beverages from. The best part? It is completely leakproof – so you don’t have to worry about any spillover.

Why Will You Love Carey?

Carry it anywhere you want, from the summer hike to your favorite restaurant.  You don’t need a bulky bottle anymore. This one is compact, and light. Apart from being easy to fit in a pocket, there are a few more things that may appeal to you.

1.      Fashionable designs that you will like

These collapsible cups come in different colours. Take your pick from choices such as red, black, blue and pink. And it’s not just the attractive colors I fell in love with. The shape and design tops in being stylish. These cups are a super cool invention and definitely the kind I wouldn’t mind showing off.

2.      Helps you stay hygienic

Have you ever been in the middle of a trek where you feel thirsty but you don’t know what to do?

You may look to borrow water from someone, but their hygiene can put you off. With the Carey cup, you certainly don’t have to worry about that. There is no need to share. And it’s easy to be more hygienic than you would think.

3.      Helps develop a good habit

No matter where you go, you can carry them with you. It’s going to help you avoid wasting plastic cups and it’s pretty fun for the kids to use too. The choice of colours – a definite crowd puller. I like the fact that the company is focusing on all age groups, ensuring they are safe for children to use. When it comes to a sustainable choice, we do need something children-friendly too.

Talking about kids, bulky and heavy bottles in a kids’ school backpack only adds more burden. As a parent, you can reduce that weight by a good liter. The Carey cups are super light-weight and easy to use.

4.      Carey cups are cheaper

Buying the Carey cup is a one-time investment. They are going to last you for a very long time, and can help you save thousands of disposable cups. I am not sure about the cost yet, because it’s still on the conceptualizing state, but I am sure it should be worth the price.

It’s a high-quality re-usable and collapsible cup that can be yours at a reasonably low price, from what I have seen of this Kickstarter project.

5.      Saves space

The Carey cups are portable and travel friendly. It can fit into the smallest of spaces – even your jeans pockets should you want.

When you wish to use it, you pull it towards the upper side and fill your preferred drink in it. Drink with the help of the sipper on the lid. Once done, compress it back down and fit it into your pockets. There is no need to carry an empty bottle around with you.

6.      Easy to clean

Cleaning bulking bottles after use is a tedious task. Carey cups, however, are very easy to clean and sterilize. Make sure to wash the cup each time after use. It’s going to take just a few seconds, but can ensure that you stay safe.

Why Will You Want One?

Because of its portable nature, you can use it anywhere and at any time! Did someone decide to serve that delicious lemonade on your picnic? Don’t know where you can hold it in? The Carey cup is your answer.

Are you forced to use paper cups for coffee at work? It’s time to switch to Carey Cup.

On your way to a trek or a hike and don’t have enough space for a bottle? Carey cup can even fit in your pockets!

The uses of this portable cup are multiple. From children to elders, it’s for everyone. The next time you’re packing a picnic or hiking bag, you know what you need to add to your bag.

The Question I had – Is it Safe?

Many of us use bottles of plastic. It’s just not as safe as you think though.

When shopping for cups or bottles, my biggest concern is the amount of chemicals they have. Plastic bottles are loaded with harmful chemicals. You can find anything from Phthalates – responsible for everything from asthma to allergic reactions in boys – to BPA substitutes that can cause everything from heart diseases to cancer. Studies of human urine samples suggest that as much as 99% of the U.S. population have these chemicals present in their bodies.

I believe Carey cups are much safer to use, and free from the chemicals you see in the normal plastic bottles.

Why Should We Say No to Plastic Cups?

Every time that you discard a coffee cup, you might think that it’s going to get recycled. Unfortunately, it doesn’t really happen. The thin layer in the plastic cups can prevent your beverage from leaking, but it is also inseparable from the cup. As a result, neither can we recycle the cup as plastic nor paper.

The Carey cup, on the other hand, is re-usable and can last you for months and months. Imagine how many cups you are saving by a decision to stop using plastic or paper cups.

The throw-away consumer culture of plastic goods is a threat globally – fishes and whales, or even birds, can choke on plastic. The more plastic we use, the more lives we put in danger.

Why do I recommend It?

For one, I like the design. It’s just simple to fold it down, when I have no water. Most of the other products that I have reviewed on Kickstarter, have a problem that only Carey can address. For instance, some are pretty good like Unda, which can double up as a cup and storage compartment. However, all of these add to the bulkiness.

Most of us shy away from taking in that extra bottle to restaurants simply because it’s too heavy. We don’t want to carry that extra item along. Whether it be to our school, office, restaurants, travel, or even for trekking, bulky bottles can set us back. They are heavy, and take up more space. However, what if we could find something more convenient – something we don’t even realize we put in our bag or pocket?

That’s where Carey comes in.

With Carey, you don’t have to worry about it. There is no need to take disposable cups on the travel flight that you are going to. Or to the park that already has a drinking water fountain.

We do need some solutions that are more sustainable in the longer run – and that’s where Carey comes in. The amount of Styrofoam that we throw to the landfills every year is simply not going to work out.

Carey cups can be an eco-friendly choice for you, but to make it a reality, the makers need your help. The Kickstarter project has just started out, and needs your help. You can become an investor and fund in on the idea here.

Once we decide on switching to Carey cup- a re-usable, long-lasting and eco-friendly cup, we’re already one step closer to help preserve our mother nature. Since it’s leakproof, carry it around anywhere you want to go.
