Getting rid of unused stuff like clothing, decorations, and some furniture made me realize the waste I gather each year and dispose of without even using it, whether it costs me hundreds of dollars.

Realizing this was the initial start of my journey to minimalism because previously, I had a bad habit of collecting; whether I would use the thing or not, I just bought things to grow my clothing, jewelry, key chains, indoor games, and stationaries.

One of the reasons for having less space in my home was to have various furniture pieces that had never been used. I couldn’t think to downsize or declutter anything around me.

But when I decided to be a minimalist, I had to follow some approaches. Firstly, to declutter my space, I needed to distinguish between what I “wanted” and what I “actually” needed. However, many things in your home may confuse you about whether you want them or need them because sometimes the case is valid for both.

So, at that time, I didn’t get rid of the things that fit this aspect. Minimalism is about sustainable, free, and easy living, not about ruining your joy by throwing away everything that you are attached to.

So, minimalism is not for just one aspect; I apply it to anything that fills up my space or mind, such as having too many clothes that fill my wardrobe, furniture more than I need, or concerns more than I can handle, everything leads to a chaotic life filled with frustration. So, by applying the concept of minimalism to each of the things I mentioned, I eventually got to have more vacant space in my house, saving my cleaning time and having vacant space in mind led me to relax.

So, it’s crucial to know our needs and concerns and keep the things that are good for you, whether for your space or your peace of mind. On the other hand, I also believe that minimalism is for living a sustainable life rather than having minimalist and cheap aesthetics.

So, instead of having too many things for one purpose, I started to get one thing but a better kind. Decluttering on the aesthetics that I don’t use or need helps me clear up much of the space in my home.

Further, I don’t cut out the things that give me joy because minimalism is the concept of living a simple and quality life that eventually gives you peace of mind and freedom, not to have regrets after discarding your precious aesthetics.

My path to minimalism gave me a sense of freedom as I managed to save a lot of time and money that I previously wasted in search of the things that I didn’t need but only wanted to satisfy my unnecessary desires, so it showed me a meaningful way to live life to the fullest.

The same rule I applied to protect my mental health from thinking about unnecessary issues and worries that aren’t in my control. Being a minimalist, I found it as a journey towards self-improvement while contributing a bit towards the environment by having only essential products at home.
