In recent years, sustainability or eco-friendly living has become a catchline that has become popular globally. However, the reason behind this catchline was never a trend on social media that gains the number 1 ranking for a few days and then changes but it’s actually a deep thought that everybody must understand. Further, only talking about sustainable living isn’t enough, this thought needs to be converted to actions instantly. So, what measures can people take to live an eco-friendly lifestyle? To answer this question, I have mentioned 7 easily adaptable sustainable habits that can be followed regularly to adopt sustainable living.

1. Save Water and Energy

Adopting some little habits like turning off the taps while brushing or when not in use or using as little water as possible for multiple purposes can save a lot of water. Saving water and light both contribute to saving energy and the less water you use, the less energy and time your tanks require to get filled up.

2. Open Windows for Fresh Air to Come Inside Home Instead of Using Fragrances

Many of us buy artificial fragrances from the market to spray in our homes, which are made of chemicals and this use of chemical-based products can be lessened by minimizing the use of these products and switching to some old ideas like opening windows of the home, which allow fresh air to get in and eventually remove any suffocative or unpleasant smell from the house.

3. Cut on Unnecessary Buying

Many people tend to buy more aesthetics than they actually need, which eventually goes to waste. Cutting or controlling unnecessary buying of stuff can help reduce the amount of garbage.

4. Turn Off Water Taps and Light Switches When Not in Use

Turning off water taps and lights, fans, and AC switches is a little but crucial habit that can reduce the amount of water and electricity wastage in your home. The more you can save water and electricity, the better will be the future.

5. Use Products as Long as Possible

Nowadays, we use less but buy more, and the more we buy, the more old products go to waste without even use. It is a better approach for sustainable living to use the products that we already have and are working fine for longer periods instead of switching to new ones just because of design and trends.

6. Buy Less Food and Cook Your Meals Yourself

Firstly, there is no guarantee of the market foods, how fresh they are and secondly, cooking your own meals is a good habit as it allows you to have the ingredients in your diet that suit you and also, you can get to have freshly prepared food, which is good for health. Further, the leftovers from the market cannot be trusted, while the leftovers of the food that you prepared can be eaten on next day too – without a doubt.

7. Drive Less and Use Public Transportation

Less driving for personal use and switching to public transportation can help reduce your carbon footprint. The more people take public transport instead of driving their own vehicles, the more fuel can be saved for the future and the less harmful smoke will be absorbed by the environment. Simply understand this concept with the example – 60 people in 1 vehicle or 60 people in 60 vehicles – which is better?
