The pandemic hit me hard too, like the rest of you. It was full of problems initially until we made peace that we had to live in the same manner for a few more months. So, we might as well find a peaceful and happy way to do so.
It all started during the first wave, suddenly all of us had too much time on hand that it looked like what to do now. People found new hobbies and passions which they never knew they had before. Some started cooking, others started blogging, and yet others started learning new languages online.
All of this was fun until you realized that there was no connection left, and you could not suffice with just online conversation. And since everyone was at home it was a very effortless family time too. This is when I brought back my board games from the attic.
Did you start boardgaming because of Covid?

It was like an activity that would involve a few of us; two, three, or four. The best part was that it kept us all together in a room providing scope for healthy interactions and all of us were away from screens too. The added benefit was that we all had something to occupy our mental space for that duration if the game was interesting or calculative enough it helped us become more engaged.

Although a lot of people mostly teenagers and age around were looking for online game players. Who would add to their teams or indulge with them in online gaming? It was easier and more interesting for that age group.
Because they felt that their connection with people of the same age and playing similar games would be better, indeed sometimes they even prefer to play these games online with strangers to prevent any interactions at all.
But my idea was entirely different, we are a small family of three kids and two parents, none of us interested in any sort of gaming. It was necessary to include an activity that would match everyone’s wavelength, and everyone would enjoy it equally.

Not only did these games bring a new change in our evenings but we also felt that they had added benefits like better logical reasoning or increased mathematical and mental capacity.
It became the best way to spend the evenings, where we would all get our tea or coffee, gather in the garden, and start playing Monopoly, Sequence, and sometimes other fun games like The Game of Life. We also played card games like UNO and Monopoly Deal which were quick and easy.
I realized that bringing board games and other such games back in life brought back that fun competitive side we had as kids, where small wins bring big joys. A sense of accomplishment and success achieved through these games is short-lived but enough to make you happy.
