Srishti Sharma, the stand-up sensation whose punchlines are as globally-inspired as her passport’s stamps. Her one foot is in the tech world while the other one is in the comedy realm, this rising star takes us on a whirlwind of wit and wanderlust.
A girl with a dream to explore the world as much as she can, painting her Instagram with her pictures from various countries. Even though she’s not a full-time stand-up comedian yet, her humor is earning her a well-deserved spotlight in the world of comics. Her Instagram presence isn’t just about sharing moments, it’s an art form.
IcyTales is in a conversation with Srishti Sharma about her enthusiasm for exploring the world while entertaining people through her words and how she manages two boats of the corporate world and comedy at the same time.
“I tried many things but it is comedy that made me feel accomplished” – Srishti Sharma
Srishti Sharma studied at BITS Pilani and had no plans that she would ever become a stand-up comedian. She is a Software Development Manager at Amazon and still doesn’t consider herself a full-time stand-up comedian. Even though she performed for the very first time 2 years back it was June 2023 when she started doing it regularly.
“I’ve been doing it since June 2023, but for the first time, I tried it 2 years back. It was just a fun day for me so I did it without much thought. My first performance was a complete improvisation, but I still got laughs. I think of it as a lucky day.”
Sometimes we all try something that we think we can do but we just can’t because we are too busy in our regular lives. The same happened with Srishti, as she didn’t get on the stage straight for 2 years. “There was a point in my life when I felt like I had no hobbies. So, I started painting, dancing, and also comedy again. I was just trying all of the things but the comedy is where I felt more accomplished. Also, I started getting paid shows very early, which was like a milestone for me to keep going.”
“I Love to Capture the Moments so I remember them Throughout my Life” – Srishti Sharma
We all love to decorate our Instagram profiles that look visually appealing, but only a few can do it properly. But once you look at Srishti Sharma’s Instagram profile, you will just not be able to stop yourself from scrolling down. With amazingly funny snippets of her comedy routines as the reels, she also shares her stunning pictures which can make anyone hit that follow button.
“To be honest, I started doing it completely for myself. Every place I visited, whatever I found interesting I make a quick video about it because I want to remember that moment.”
She has a good amount of followers right now but at some point, her engagement was stopped because of the algorithm of Instagram as it only started promoting reels, and Srishti used to post her pictures in those days. However, after she took her steps into the comedy scene, she began posting reels of her routines and got her engagement back.
“At some point, my engagement dropped because Instagram used to promote reels and I only used to post photos. Despite having the low engagement I never stopped posting. Then when I started posting comedy, I gained a good number of followers. Now, a lot of my reels are getting many views. So, now I have to be more aware as my account has become influential.”
“I’m Trying to Explore More Than Exploit” – Srishti Sharma
Explore and exploit are two different and important things that every artist should do. But there’s a huge difference between these two terms and understanding this distinction is essential. Srishti Sharma knows the difference between these two terms very well and applies both in her life accordingly. “I’m trying to explore more than exploit. What it means is that you can either keep writing your things or keep adding jokes, which is exploring. And exploiting is like knowing what works and practicing it until you become very good at it.”
As a stand-up comedian, one has to keep a balance between exploring and exploiting. Srishti Sharma loves to explore but unlike those who just ignore the truth she knows that she has to work on the exploiting part. “Exploiting is something that I need to work on. You have to repeat your jokes 100 times to get it out in a perfect way.”
“Most of My Routines are Tragedy that Turned into Comedy” – Srishti Sharma
If you have ever watched or attended any standup, you might know that many comedians turn their tragic moments into comedy bits and many people find it relatable. Srishti Sharma is very good at it. Watching her comedy will make you realize how she can make you laugh even in the most tragic moments she lived. “Most of the things I talk about is tragedy turned into comedy. And if I can make you laugh about something traumatic, I think that’s a win for me.”
There are many similar traumatic incidents that we all go through in our lives. Srishti Sharma identified these and added them into her routines as jokes and made her audience laugh. “There have been some points when some people after the show come to me and say that’s exactly what happened with them. Those are my biggest wins.”
Srishti is not doing the comedy for the money, she has been doing it to learn how to produce a show. Her goal is to start a show where anyone can perform about anything. Her path into comedy may have been unexpected, but her dedication to living life to the fullest is undeniable.
Srishti Sharma’s journey is an inspiring one, marked by a passion for exploration, a talent for humor, and a desire to create a space where everyone can be heard. With the world as her canvas and laughter as her paintbrush, she’s a rising star worth keeping an eye on.
