Everyone’s leading a digital life today. And I observed my routine that started in front of the phone screen and ended in front of the phone or laptop’s screen. I couldn’t find anything natural like physical and outdoor activities in my routine, which literally made me sad when I observed all of it.
Sometimes, using gadgets for essential work such as studying or office-working is necessary. But, what made me surrounded by online stuff were the unnecessary habits that I followed like using my phone in the 10-minute breaks from work, even when the work was finished, I used my phone, and scrolling social media before sleeping and after waking up was like a routine to me that made my mental peace a mess. It was too much of using gadgets, so I gave it a thought and decided to declutter my online life.
So, firstly I cut down on watching reels and started removing stuff on my phone that occupied extra space and wasted my time like old and unnecessary images, videos, and quotes that often kept me engaged. And I managed to keep only the things I needed whether in my phone’s memory or cloud space.
Another distraction was my social media accounts which aren’t really needed, so I first deleted my Twitter account and then a few games and other applications like this.

My phone started to look a lot more decent and clean than ever before and I also got to save a lot of space as well. However, decluttering is a process that needs to be maintained regularly, otherwise, eventually, these things will gather again. So, I started to give this a little bit of time once or twice a week to declutter my online distractions.

However, I observed that digital decluttering started to save me a lot of time of the day that I usually wasted while scrolling down on social media, but when I didn’t have much to scroll, my habit of always being engaged with my phone stopped gradually.
But, even though I began to declutter once or twice a week, it was still a bit hectic to go through everything and check if the thing needed to be kept or not. So, I found a way to solve this problem too, which was making folders with the names of categories like office_work, downloaded_post, and temporary_data, and I even made bookmarks and added the things to favorites, which I don’t need to delete.

This helped me save time while decluttering as I didn’t need to search for temporary files anymore. Further, I even decluttered hundreds of emails that I received daily as many of them are unnecessary. So, I added many email addresses to spam that are not needed so I can declutter them without checking whenever I have time, and as for the important emails, I starred them.

Digital decluttering not only saved lots of memory in my phone but also gave me a break from all of these negative habits that I previously had of using my phone all the time. And eventually, it all contributed to my mental peace, which was the most important aspect of the decision to declutter my online life. It allowed me to engage in other activities outside of my tiny world inside the phone.
