Anurag Kashyap’s latest movie Udta Punjab has raised many new questions regarding the thought process of our Indian society. The movie is still facing continuous bashings in the hands of the censor board. After 89 cuts, the Censor Board of Film Certification chief, Pahlaj Nihalan, has suggested that the word “Punjab” be removed from the title. The entire film fraternity went all out.
Censor Board at its Critical worst
Apart from the 13 categories that exist in the cut list, these are some of the things that the censor board doesn’t want the film to show:
- Delete the signboard of Punjab at the beginning
- Delete the name of cities like Punjab, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Tarn Taran, and more
- From Song Number 1, remove the mention of drugs
- Delete the word ‘Chitta’ from the song
- Delete Abuses
- Remove the words elections, MP, party, Party Worker, MLA, Punjab parliament. No references: no govt rep references (38 mins)
- Delete the scene of a scratching Sardar in Song No 3
The Censor Board also wants a long disclaimer from the filmmaker.
