2. Homestead National Monument
Another famous national park in Nebraska, Homestead National Monument of America, is in southeastern Nebraska, approximately 40 miles to Lincolnโs south. So, this act was known as the Homestead Act, signed into law in 1826 by President Lincoln.
This act allowed private ownership of public land.
However, in 1936, the Homestead National Monument of America was established on land once Daniel Freeman claimed in January 1863. His descendants decided to sell it to the Department of the Interior to create the national monument.
