Are you into urban gardening or looking for the easiest methods to turn your concrete jungle into green? Then, you are at the right place. Also, you don’t need to worry even if you don’t have a home yard for urban gardening. You can simply follow the below step-by-step approach to begin your urban gardening journey.
1. Choose a decent spot to turn into a green
Here, you don’t need to worry much about the space – just focus on what you have. This decent spot can be any part of your home, a small yard, a balcony, window space, or even a rooftop. I think these are the spaces that make urban gardening more enjoyable as it’s quite easy to turn them into a beautiful intriguing green space.
2. Consider what you’ll need for urban gardening
Planning is important! Think about what materials you’ll need entirely for the urban garden and what will you plant here – flowers or vegetables. Also, another thing to consider is the amount of sunlight your gardening space will get, so you can grow your favorite plants accordingly. For instance, if your area gets less sunlight, then it’s better to sow plants that can grow in shade like Bromeliad.

3. Buy several gardening containers of different sizes
Most urban gardening procedures are executed on rooftops or balconies with less space and no soil on the bottom surface. So, using flowering containers of different sizes for planting can be very helpful. And there is no limit, you can fill up your space with as many pots as you want.
4. Fill up the containers with fertile soil
Now, this is a crucial aspect. A healthy plant can only be grown in fertile soil. So, ensure whatever soil you are using is of good quality and prepared with enough humus.
5. Make space for hanging baskets
The bottom space will be covered by placing many flowering pots but for having garden or greenery vibes, it’s necessary to get surrounded by the greenery. So, you can hang flower baskets on the faces of the walls with the help of nails and screws and nextly, if your chosen space is a balcony, hanging some baskets in front of you can give you pure and fresh greenery vibes.
6. Start planting the seeds or small plants in the soil
Now, if you want to grow plants from scratch by using seeds, you need to sow seeds in the soil and wait for their shoot to come out of the soil, which takes around 6-8 days. Another way to do this is directly buying plants from nurseries or farmers markets as they provide already grown plants that you can take home and take care of them further.
7. Take care of them daily and Enjoy Their Growth!
The last and most important step is to take care of each plant regularly, so, your hard work and effort won’t go in vain. Also, you merely need to take care of a few things regularly like watering twice a day, looking at them if they are getting proper or needed sunlight, mixing humus in soil within the gaps of 2-3 weeks, and ensuring pests don’t ruin them.
