Is your skin and you are not on good terms off lately, like you and your toxic ex. For any good relationship either with a person or with your skin, commitment, investment, and a furthermost importantly stress-free life are essential. So to detoxify your skin and your life- sleep, drink water, know about your skin texture and treat your skin well.

Everybody is all about that glass skin these days and wants that glowing, smoother skin. But if you’re having severe acne scars, dull skin, uneven texture, and hyperpigmentation. Here’s what you need to follow.

What is Skin?

Skin is the largest organ of our body made up of proteins, fat, minerals, and water, protecting our body from the environment. it helps in regulating body temperatures and stimuli sensations.

Skin is divided into three layers:-

  1. Epidermis- The top layer of skin that we can see and feel. Keratin is a protein present in our skin cells that helps in forming the epidermis. It also acts as a protective layer that saves us from germs and infectious diseases. Epidermis also contains melanin which defines the color of our skin, the one who has more melanin tends towards darker skin and vice versa.
  2. Dermis- The second layer of skin which supplies blood to the epidermis keeping the skin healthy. It contains collagen and elastin which keeps the skin flexible and resilient.
  3. Hypodermis- The bottom layer of skin contains fat that protects the muscle and bones.

WHAT IS SKIN TEXTURE?

The skin issue with uneven skin has lots of bumps, rough patches, or enlarged pores with the build-up of dead and keratinized skin cells which cause due to prior acne or due to sun damage and exposure; UVA, and UVB rays.

UVA- Ultraviolet Ageing; Exposure to UVA rays causes wrinkles and hyperpigmentation.

UVB- Ultraviolet Burning: Exposure to UVB rays causes cancer

TYPES OF SKIN:-

  1. Normal skin- The type of skin in which neither the skin will be dry nor it will be oily.
  2. Dry skin- Most parts of the skin will be dry and flaky.
  3. Oily skin- The sebaceous glands secret more oils in oily skin than any other.
  4. Combination skin- The combination of both dry and oily skin. The T-zone is more oily, and the face’s perimeters are dry and have rough skin.

WHAT CAUSES SKIN TEXTURE?

  1. ACNE- When the hair follicles are clogged with dead skin cells and oil causes whiteheads and blackheads that further turns into severe acne-like cysts, modules, or pimples. Later that turns into atrophic scars which will produce extra sebum and lead to enlarged pores.
  2. WHITEHEADS- When the sebaceous glands become inflamed and produce more oils, it gets built up into a pore that leads to a whitehead.
  3. Blackheads- When the oils and dead skin clog the pores end up causing a blackhead

Post acne leads to severe scars and enlarged pores which shows textured skin. Blackheads and whiteheads are the root cause of acne and skin texture issues.

HOW TO IMPROVE SKIN TEXTURE:-

First thing first focus on clearing acne

Have a good skincare regime.

Steps for clearing acne:-

MORNING SKINCARE ROUTINE FOR SKIN TEXTURE:-

Start with a cleanser, try using a cleanser that has salicylic acid which is commonly known as BHA(Beta Hydroxy Acid) which will be a gentle chemical exfoliation.

WHAT BHA DO:-

BHA helps in exfoliating dead skin cells and controls the secretion of oils which will eventually improve uneven skin tone. Wipe out your face with a clean towel in the most gentle way possible.

Then after cleansing apply some hydrating alcohol fragrance-free toner which mainly contains glycolic acid or PHAs as toner tends to suck all the oils from the facial skin.

  • Always use fragrance-free products as a fragrance and essential oils irritate the skin which turns into more problematic.

After toning your skin, go for some actives I would suggest Niacinamide 10% active ingredient in a product, or if you have very sensitive skin opt for 5% one. Niacinamide is the best active present out there it has plenty of benefits it’s great for people who have sensitive skin as it reduces redness and sensitivity. It also brightens any dark spots and hyperpigmentation you have. It reduces sebum production and is great for all skin types.

Moisturize your skin with a clinically proven moisturizer the one that does not contain fragrance and alcohol. If you skip the moisturizer you will start having dry and rough skin. If you think you have oily skin and you don’t need one. you are prone to damage the skin texture more.

If you have dry or combination skin always choose a heavy moisturizer that has a higher concentration of squalene, and hyaluronic acid present in it for extra moisture. Oily skin can choose for gel-like consistency of the formula of a moisturizer. But never miss out on a moisturizer. Moisturizing your skin is to get that healthy skin.

The last step in the morning has to be an SPF (sun protection factor). Use SPF 30 when you are inside and whenever you are outside you have to apply SPF 50. The big reason for skin texture is sun damage and exposure. If you want healthy skin always protect it from UV radiation and never skip on SPF.

Now time for Nighttime Skincare Routine for Skin Texture

The first step has to be a cleanser. At the night always double cleanse your face. For the first cleanse choose an oil or balm-based cleanser to remove all that dirt sunscreen and makeup that you have left on the skin and for the second cleanse use a cream cleanser if you have dry skin and gel or foam-based cleanser for oily skin to remove any leftover.

For the second step at night apply 2% salicylic acid or BHA serum as it is great for acne-prone skin as it gets into the pores and helps in exfoliating all the dirt and dead skin even oil to make sure keeping the pores clean which will eventually help in removing whiteheads, and blackheads and also slow down the oil production. I would recommend BHAs toner or serum to use every other as it is an exfoliating agent and you don’t want your skin to over-exfoliate.

After the salicylic serum, apply niacinamide serum with the concentration of 5 or 10%, or if you apply it both during the day and night then go for 5% one.

Instead of both salicylic and niacinamide serums you can use retinol.

RETINOL

Retinols help in repairing damaged skin whether you have acne scars or fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots, or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Retinols will help resolve all the skin issues except the life issues. But applying retinol can be a bit tricky. Always retinol at night as it can get very sensitizing to the skin. If you are applying retinol at the night never forget to wear sunscreen in the morning. don’t apply retinol every single night you need to slowly introduce retinol to your skin. You can use it three times a week or slowly start with two times a week then you slowly build it up.

After the actives apply moisturizer for extra moisture which will help in collagen production. That will make your skin less dry and will keep it more bouncy and youthful.

After treating skin texture with all the actives, apply a broad-spectrum SPF in the morning.

How to Exfoliate Your Skin: A Guide

AHAs and BHAs for Skin Texture

Alpha hydroxy acid is known as glycolic acid. So if you have a combination or normal skin type AHAs are great to start with as they provide mild exfoliation as salicylic acid does.

For dry skin, you can use lactic acid which also is AHA. What lactic acid does is mildly exfoliate the skin providing moisture without destroying any skin barrier.

What you should choose for weekly exfoliation is an AHA PHA and BHA peeling solution once a week. Never exceed more than once a week as it can irritate the skin.

These two hydroxy acids are popularly found in several products like cleansers, serums or peels, and toners which mainly help in cell turnover.

HOW TO APPLY AHA PHA and BHA PEEL?

Always use the chemical peeling solution at night for deeper exfoliation. Firstly double cleanse your face. After that apply the peeling solution all over the face except around the area of the eyes and lips. Leave it for 10 to 15 mins also don’t exceed the timing. Wash it off with water. Then apply a good layer of moisturizer. And in the morning don’t forget to apply sunscreen with SPF50. The one who doesn’t wear sunscreen fails to maintain healthy skin.

What it does is remove dead skin cells and clean out the pores it also shrinks the size of pores and improves the overall skin’s texture.

IN-CLINIC TREATMENTS

The best you do for your damage is to consult a good board-certified dermatologist. They’ll treat the concerns even better way.

In-clinic treatments for skin texture issues will be mainly laser treatment or chemical peel. this helps in resurfacing the skin texture in just a fraction of time.

These two treatments can only be performed by doctors. Leave it on them don’t try this at home.

Follow their steps and do what they say.

If you want your skin to shine bright like a diamond follows the above steps to get that healthy-looking glowing skin.
