To understand the traditions and celebrations of Christmas from the early times, it is important to analyze its origin. Let us consider the beginnings of the holy, the only son of God, and the most anticipated messiah.

1.1. The 1st and the 2nd Century

The observance of this festival was majorly evolved by paganism and Roman traditions. In the early 1st and 2nd centuries, no exact birth date or year witnessed the celebrations of Jesus’s Birth.

The Bible (Luke 2: 8) states that shepherds tended to flock at night when Jesus was born. The Scholar’s point of view was mainly theoretical but not chronological.

At this time, there was not a single evidence of the birth of Jesus Christ in the notations of initial writers called Irenaeus” (c. 130-200) and Tertullian (c. 160-225).

Finally, in 200 AD, a teacher who practiced Christianity in Egypt was one of the early Christians who cited the date when Jesus was born. They claimed he was born between March and April on the 24th or 25th. However, there was a huge debate regarding the birth of Messiah.

During the initial decades of these centuries, two dates were widely recognized. These dates were 25 December, according to the  Western Roman Emperor Constantine, and 6 January, following Eastern Egypt.

Jesus’s birthday is derived specifically from the Roman almanac in the mid-fourth century, which cites the death dates of Christian bishops and martyrs. Even today, the Armenian Church observes Christmas on  January 6.

The most popular reason for the arrival of Christmas dates was gathered from pagans celebrations. The Romans celebrated theSaturnaliafestival in the last days of December.

Following this theory, Christians intentionally proposed broadening Christmas during the Roman festival rule. Despite the admiration of Christmas beginnings, it had its consequences. The authors noticed a relationship between the solstice and the support of the birth of Jesus.

A church father named “Ambrose” (c.339 – 397) narrated Jesus as the true son, they observe pagans replace Jesus as a true god.

1.3. From 12th to 19th Century

Finally, in the middle ages of the 12th century, people recognized celebrating Jesus’s birthday during the pagans festivals.

In ancient times, one of the biblical commentators and church officials decided to propose the Christmas holiday be from 6 January to 25th December. Prior Christians did not know what was Jesus’s birth date.

They usually assumed to celebrate Christmas on the pagans’ summer solstice and winter solstice festival for their intentions. Thereby, Christian celebrations flooded western and northern Europe. The Christmas tree, for instance, was tied up with medieval practices.

1.4. From 20th Century to 21st Century

In these century timeframes, the religion of Christianity is abruptly changing. Gradually, Christianity is declining in the Western world in terms of authority. When it became the original religion of the Roman Empire, it played an immense role in human values.

Communication with the gospel maintains the history of Christianity. As a result, Christianity was able to withstand regardless of the fall of Israel by keeping the central communication with society.

2000 years ago, an angel named Gabriel visited a young lady named “Mary.”  According to a bible reference site, Gabriel told Mary that she would have a son named “Jesus,” who would be regarded as the son of God.

She was perplexed and anxious about this news. However, she believed and trusted God and said, I am the servant of my Lord, so let it be.”

Mary and her fiance, Joseph, stayed in “Nazareth”. Nonetheless, they had to move to Bethlehem to schedule a count organized by the Roman Emperor Caesar Augustus. Nazareth and Bethlehem are now recognized as Israel today.

When they reached Bethlehem, they could not shelter or accommodate as the inn was full. They spent the whole night where animals were preserved, and Jesus was born

There was no crib available, so they laid the baby Jesus on the feeding box of animals. The feeding box had fresh hay and a comforting bed for the baby.

Herod planned to search for Jesus and kill him. He became extremely frustrated when his men could not locate Jesus. He gave orders to his soldiers to go to Bethlehem and assassinate all the children who were below two years old, thinking that Jesus would be one of them.
