Christmas is coming to town, and this month of celebration is making the excitement and joy very palpable. Usually, before Christmas, we will be busy decorating the house to welcome this joyful session. But keep in mind that apart from decorating to welcome Christmas, what must be considered first is the cleanliness of the house.

If your house is dirty, no matter how good your Christmas decoration is, it won’t be enough! Christmas is the best day when your friends and family will gather at your house. Thus ensuring that it is safe for them, especially during these post-pandemic days is equally as important.

You don’t have to overdo cleaning the entire room, just make sure that the area in the room looks clean and free from any clutter when guests or family gather to celebrate Christmas. Here is a thorough guide for you to prepare for pre-Christmas cleaning at your house!

Set the time for cleaning

The first step that you need is to find the right time to do the cleaning session. If you clean the entire house by yourself, you may need at the very least all day to finish the cleaning session. But usually doing this in one go alone, will definitely take a toll on your energy.

If you do it together with family, for example, it may be much easier and faster to finish. But at the same time, finding the right time when the house inhabitant can clean it together may not be as easy. Each individual has their own agenda, thus matching it with each other may not be easy.

The best time to do the thorough Christmas cleaning is a week or 3-day before Christmas. Thus, on D-day, you don’t need to do anything much. Just light dust, sweep, and mop to ensure the house looks spotless!

Clean room by room

To start cleaning, you can categorize each by cleaning it room by room. Start by cleaning the entry area of the house. An entrance is an area that gives the first impression of the state of your home. Thus ensuring it is in good condition is as important. In addition to decorating the room with various accessories, spend time cleaning it with various steps.

First, you can wipe all the furniture in the area and the window sill. Ensuring that there will be no dust presence left behind. You can afterward arrange messy items around the entrance area. If you have a home garden, you may need to trim it and put lots of Christmas lights around the garden to make it look cozy and get that Christmasy vibe!

Afterward, you can go to the bedroom and replace the old sheets and wash them. Put the fresh sheets in the cupboard as a backup. Thus, if upon visiting some guests choose to stay overnight at your house, you can just easily take them out and put them on the bed. You don’t have to run around to prepare for it anymore because the sheets are ready to use.

The next room to clean is the living room and dining areas. Gatherings to celebrate Christmas are usually centered around the main living room. Thus truly ensuring this space is clean is important. Vacuum your carpet to get rid of any dust and mildew, and properly wipe the furniture, frames, or other ornaments in the room. If you have already set-up the Christmas tree and arrange some gifts below them, don’t forget to also do a light clean around the gifts. You definitely do not want your family to grab a gift that is covered with dust!

You should also not forget to clean up the bathroom. The bathroom is an area that has high humidity, so it is not uncommon to be a breeding place for bacteria and can emit bad air and odors. Thus you should not forget to thoroughly clean the bathroom and freshen the air using a room freshener. Or to be safer for our health, you can use natural mixtures such as baking soda to absorb odors in the bathroom. Ensuring the drains run well is also an important point in cleaning the bathroom.

If you clean with the help of other people, you can assign them to clean room by room for a more effective and efficient cleaning session.

Hire professional help

Do a thorough inspection of your house. You may need to check whether there is any leak in the house or a crack in the walls. You want to make sure that the house area is in splendid condition.

Don’t forget to also check out your carpet cleanliness, sometimes if the dust and dirt already accumulate for too long you may need to shampoo the carpet and thus need professional help. Ensuring your house can have the perfect temperature is also as important.

Sorting refrigerator

If you are also planning to cook during Christmas, you may need to go shopping to get all the ingredients. But before shopping, you need to check your refrigerator first and sort it out to keep it tidy. This will also help you save money because you can figure out whether you need to purchase all the ingredients, or only some of them because you have the others in stock in your fridge.

Ensure the house smells good

The last step that needs to be done to clean the house for Christmas is to ensure that your home smells good. A good and refreshing scent will also indicate a clean house. What you can do in order to ensure that only good scents can come out from your house, is by putting several diffusers with essential oil around your house. This will help to set and improve the atmosphere at your house on Christmas day!
