India, the land where you can get most of the natural beauties of the entire world. It’s no wonder why it’s so hard for a person to complete a tour of the entire country in his whole lifetime.

You have mountains, deserts, tropical forests, mangrove forests, vast sea beaches; everything your heart desires is in India, from north to south, east to west. But to beat the heat during March, you need someplace to escape to, and that perfectly segues us into today’s topic of the 10 best hill stations in India in March.

1. Darjeeling

The Queen of the Hills is one of the best hill stations in India.

You have the world-famous UNESCO World Heritage Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. The DHR features the Toy Train and takes you on an enthralling journey up the mountains and the famous Batasia Loop.

You can ride the Darjeeling Ropeway with all the exquisite views it has to offer, or reach the top of the Tiger Hill to get a view of the sunrise and the majestic Kanchenjunga in all her glory bathed in golden sunlight.

Visit the Darjeeling Rock Garden, visit the Singalila National Park, and hand out in the Nightingale Park.

You can visit the Darjeeling Peace Pagoda, take a trek to Sandakphu, or even do some rafting in the river.

The Zoological Park should be on your list for exotic species.

You can give a visit to the many Tea Estates over there, or if that’s not your cup of tea, you can hang out in the Mall area enjoying the scenery all around you, go to the Lamahatta Park, sit down and relax, which makes it one of the best hill stations in India in March.

2. Srinagar

Way north in the state of Jammu and Kashmir is the city of Srinagar. One of the most beautiful places in the Kashmir Valley is. Lots of places to visit, here’s a rundown.

If you went to Srinagar and didn’t visit the Dal Lake, you will miss out on a prime attraction. It’s the most iconic attraction, and you can even get to stay in houseboats if you wish. It’s just a nature lover’s paradise over there.

You’ll also find Shikaras sailing there, and Shikara rides are high in demand. You’ll also get to see a floating market.

Located 12 km from Srinagar is the Saffron Field, a place where the saffron is just mesmerizing.

The Mughal Gardens are another famous place. Classified in three parts – Nishat Bagh, Shalimar Gardens, and Chashm-e-Shahi, these gardens are stunning representations of the Mughal architecture.

Then there’s the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden. Yep, this place is as exciting as it sounds, and you should check it out.

Other places include the Shri Pratap Singh Arts Emporium, which showcases the history of Kashmiri Culture, the Shalimar Bagh, Yushmarg, Pari Mahal, Badam Wari, Manasbal Lake, and plenty others. It truly is one of the best hill stations in India in March.

3. Manali

Solang valley is famous for its glaciers and snow-clad landscapes, and you can even take part in a lot of the activities here.

Rohtang Pass is a dream for many people. It grants access to Himachal Pradesh’s dreamy landscapes. It’s like a vast desert but made of snow, and should not be missed.

The Hidimba Temple is a personal favorite of mine. Surrounded by towering Deodar Trees, this temple is dedicated to the wife of Bhima. While gorgeous in itself, the main attraction is a three-day Hidimba Devi Festival, which attracts numerous devotees from all over the world and is full of wonderful folk dance performances.

Skiing is one of the beautiful, adventurous sports that can be done here.

You can pay a visit to the Great Himalayan National Park. It is full of special mountainous species that can’t be found anywhere else, and along with that, you can take a look at the Manali Sanctuary.

Along with these, there are numerous places to go trekking if you want, the Beas Kund Trek, Chandratal Baralacha Trek, Hampta Pass Trek, to name a few.

4. Khajjiar

Filled with meadows, dense forests, and beautiful views, this is a great place on our list.

The Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary is known for its nature walks, hikes, and for the various animals that are indigenous to the region.

The main attraction is the Khajjiar Lake, also known as the Switzerland of India. It is just like the vast meadows in Switzerland, and you can do paragliding, zorbing, and horse riding over there. There’s a lake, and the mesmerizing view of Mount Kailash can also be seen from the lake.

You can visit the Tibetan Handicrafts Center for authentic souvenirs to take back home. You can get anything from carpets to wall hangings.

The Khajji Nag Temple is one of the places to go to and is the most vintage temple of the state of Himachal Pradesh.

5. Almora

A visit to Zero Point is a must if you want the best view in town, of the Kedarnath, Nanda Devi, Trishul, and the other peaks in all their glory.

The Jageshwari Temple is an ancient temple complex dedicated to Lord Shiva, which features the beautiful Nagara style craftsmanship.

You can also take a trip to the Deer Park, the Kumaon Regimental Center Museum, the town of Kasar Devi, and many of the temples that people so devotees revere.

In the end, a welcoming view at the Bright End Corner will be awaiting you for a beautiful sight of the setting sun, as the day comes to a close.

6. Nainital

The Naina Devi Temple is a must-visit, and so is the Eco Garden that tourists adore.

The Mall Road, that runs parallel to Nainital lake is the prime shopping center along with food and also serving as the cultural center of Nainital.

Don’t miss the Nainital Ropeway, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

You can also visit the Snow View Point and even go trekking to Naina Peak to get a glimpse of the Nanda Devi peak and the city as a whole.

There’s even a high-altitude zoo that offers indigenous species for your eyes to savor.

7. Auli

Instead of calling it one of the best hill stations in India in March, one might as well argue that it is the best hill station. Auli is one of the best and most coveted destinations in India. Here’s what you can do once you get there.

You can go skiing, and it’s the most popular sport in Auli, offering views of the gorgeous peaks of the Himalayas.

Also known as the Gondola, this ropeway covers a distance of 4 kilometers. The journey starts at Joshimath, ending at Auli. It’s also Asia’s second-longest ropeway.

The picturesque town of Joshimath is perched at the height of 6150 feet in Chamoli. Overlooking the Sangam of the rivers Alakananda and Dhauliganga, this is the perfect spot to relax.

You can also visit Gurso Bugyal, situated at an elevation of 3056 meters. It is a picturesque meadow with lush green pastures and oak trees. It also offers amazing panoramic views of the mountain ranges up ahead.

The Chenab Lake is an artificial lake, which is crystalline in appearance, is an enchanting spot for tourists. You have to trek to this spot, which is an authentic and crude trekking experience.

8. Tawang

You can pay a visit to the Tibetan Settlement Market for all the traditional gift items, traditional clothes, porcelain pottery, handicrafts, ornaments, teapots, and others.

The hot springs in the village of Thimpu near Tawang, are simply the best.

The Goyangong Ani Gompa is a place of extreme serenity that you can take a trip to.

Banggchhang Lake and Shonga-Tser Lake are heaven for photography enthusiasts and are a must on this trip.

Gorichen Peak is a heaven for trekkers perched at 22500 feet and is a dream for many trekkers. This place is endowed with natural beauty and is one of the most challenging of treks.

The Tawang Monastery is a significant place of attraction here, being one of the largest Buddhist monasteries, along with the Bap Teng Kang waterfalls, which are accompanied by a crystal-clear pool at its end.

The Geshila Peak offers a beautiful view of nature along with lush greenery.

You can also visit the Urgelling Gompa, which is the birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama.

9. Munnar

You can visit the Eravikulam National Park, declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which features endangered and exotic wildlife species, like Indian Muntjac, Golden Jackal, Nilgiri Langur, and others.

The Tea Museum in Munnar is very famous and is a beautiful place to learn about your favorite beverage.

Between Munnar and Pallivasal, is the Attukad Waterfalls, and is one of the most wonderful waterfalls in the entire state.

A visit to the Blossom International Park is a must where you can indulge yourself in activities like boating, nature walks, birdwatching, adventure trails, and several others.

The Marayoor Dolmens are stone structures that are believed to be more than a thousand years old.

10. Ooty

Situated in Tamil Nadu, Ooty or Ootacamund is immensely popular with tourists.

Ooty Lake is a must-visit. You can also go for boating in the lake and even cycle along the lake. There are also shops along the side of the lake.

The Botanical Gardens of Ooty is a marvel in itself. The flower-show here during summer. There’s a Fern House, Lower Garden, Italian Garden, Conservatory and different Nurseries. The Fossil Tree Trunk here is said to be 20 million years old.

The Deer Park is very interesting if wildlife is your cup of tea, and is an amazing place to observe the various species over here.

The Ooty Rose Garden is another beautiful place spread across 4 hectares, offering more than 20 thousand varieties of roses.

Like Darjeeling, Ooty has a famous Toy Train that is definitely worth the ride.

You can also visit the Tribal Research Center, the Needle View Hill-point, the different National Parks here, Toda Huts, the different waterfalls, and other areas to your heart’s content, justifying why it is called one of the best hill stations in India in March.
