Most people have grown by playing board games with their families and friends and there may be quite a few people who have spent their time on single-player board games. Even though solo board games are not meant for everybody, the joy of playing board games solo is still top-notch just like any other game. So, I’m sharing several top solo board games of all time that many people love to play.
1. Dune: Imperium
Starting with the game Imperium series, while the game is meant for people above fifteen years old, Dune: Imperium can allow up to 1 to 4 people to play. Even though it requires three to four people to play this game with more fun, the rise in demand for solo games inspired the designer to add an automated opponent that allows people to play this game solo with this opponent. Also, despite having a fairy interactive setup, the joy of stealing resources and sending them to the contest territory makes this game even more worth playing.
2. Imperium: Horizons
Imperium: Horizons became an epic entry from the series of Imperium board games and it is quite a solo-friendly board game. Despite being a notable exception, this game has a civilization setup, in which you need to bring a deck-building mechanic. It gives quite a real sense of achievement when you move forward to conquer new lands and get the chance to lead your members to the empire. If you are interested in achieving great goals and want to enjoy it at the same time, you must try this game.
3. Terraforming Mars
Playing Terraforming Mars alone gives the same joy as playing it with many players. Need to be finished within an hour, this game gives you a sense of competence and allows you to race against time. Also, you need to accomplish three end-game parameters within this limited time just like making a man-made ocean to sustain life by increasing oxygen levels and lowering the temperature. A bit like a mind game, I think it would be fun to play this as trying something new and challenging is always fun.
4. Arkham Horror: The Card Game
Even though it could be intimidating to go through the odds of appalling horror on your own, Arkham Horror: The Card Game can give you an impressive as well as tense experience and I guess that makes this game a must-try once. Advancing your levels among many different investigators and extraordinary evil monsters gives you a legendary feeling while playing this game. Here, you have a range of scenarios that oblige you to solve a cosmic mystery.
5. Cascadia
Even though Cascadia is popular for being a family-friendly game, it initially didn’t seem very exciting for a solo player. However, once you start playing this game as a solo player, it provides one of the best solo gaming experiences. While its wildlife theme is super tempting, its simplicity of movement is quite addictive. Also, selecting the right animal tokens and pairs of random terrain tiles that you need to add to your nature reserve to make satisfying scoring patterns is quite fun.
