People are adopting various methods to embrace sustainability. From using reusable items to adapting eco-friendly products, even a small step towards sustainability can help save the environment and produce less plastic waste, which is the main cause of environmental harm. However, there are various ways to adopt sustainability and eco-friendly ideas can be applied anywhere, for example replacing plastic products with eco-friendly ones. So, mentioned below are some ideas to make your kitchen plastic-free and sustainable.

1. Replace Disposable Products with Reusable Ones

Disposable cups, plates, or glasses are single-use products, which are manufactured with plastic. Avoiding the use of plastic products can lessen plastic waste a lot as many people nowadays are fond of disposable items and always carry them. So, the first thing you can do to make your kitchen plastic-free is to replace all single-use or disposable products with reusable ones such as bamboo plates or glass bowls and cups.

2. Use Stainless Steel or Glass Containers

Containers of stainless steel are more durable and can be reused after washing. Also, you can use glass containers to replace your plastic ones as they can give you a more beautiful look than plastic containers and are reusable as well. So, you can use whatever you like either stainless steel or glass containers. However, glass containers can break if they fall but stainless steel containers won’t, so, choose wisely.

3. Compost Organic Waste

So much organic waste is produced in the kitchen like peels of fruits like bananas and oranges, and the leftovers of vegetable scraps. This waste can be composted in a separate recycle bin that you can further use to mix in your gardening soil to increase its fertility. Adapting this eco-friendly approach will help you make your kitchen more sustainable.

4. Use Sustainable Utensils

Discard all disposable utensils that your kitchen already has and replace them with alternative utensil options like bamboo, wood, or stainless steel. You can use either of these utensils as per your choice or convenience, the focus is to eliminate plastic out of this set, which is possible by using these alternate options.

5. Replace Plastic Containers with Stasher Bags to Store Food

Using disposable or plastic containers is so common to store food as they provide excellent air-tight quality. However, this habit of storing food in plastic containers can also be changed by using stasher pouches that are made of silicon. Also, just like plastic containers, these pouches are available in various colors, sizes, and shapes and look beautiful as well, so feel free to use them as they can also give your kitchen a new look.

6. Eco-Friendly Dishwashing Sponges

Among these bigger products, a small plastic sponge is often neglected. However, this has sustainable alternatives too such as compostable natural kitchen sponges. Unlike plastic sponges, which are prepared with plastic and some chemicals, these natural sponges are eco-friendly and biodegradable. And I’m sure once you get used to them, you’ll surely not miss your old sponges.
