1. Kelly Hopkinsville Encounter
‘Hopkinsville’ is a town in Christian County, United States. You must have heard and read about UFO sightings in various countries or towns in the United States. Incidents such as McMinnville and Warminster stirred heated conversations across the entire nation. Let us take a look at a similar UFO encounter that took place in Hopkinsville.
In addition to the total solar eclipse, Hopkinsville has been able to draw the attention of the whole nation. It is because of the UFO sightings. This occurred sixty years ago. A family living in the town reported that they saw ‘little green men’. A spacecraft also spotted to be floating over their farmhouse. This incident came to be known as the ‘Kelly-Hopkinsville Encounter’.
The family who witnessed this incident were a part of the ‘Kelly’ community. It was 21st August, 1955. A guy named Elmor Lucky Sutton was visiting his family in Hopkinsville. Lucky Sutton was travelling with his friends June Taylor and Billy Ray. After a later night’s dinner, he went towards the well and came back inside.
2. A Spaceship
On the way home, he claimed that he saw a flying saucer floating across the sky. All of them were staying in the Sutton family farmhouse. Some of them had already left the carnival life. When Billy Ray Taylor went to the well he also saw a light shooting straight across the sky. The flying saucer was a metallic, flat-shaped round object which was also tipped above. As the object went straight across the sky a sharp light also followed it.
At first, Billy Ray thought that it was a shooting star, meteor or someone was pranking him. Everyone refused to believe him. Even his wife, June also didn’t believe him. Luck and Billy Ray once again visited the same place where Billy had seen the object. It was hard to understand that a spaceship just passed over him.
3. Green Men
They came back to the well to dig a little deeper. The object didn’t appear at the time. However, two glowing green men just passed through the wood. It seemed that they were holding their hands over the head. Surprised by those alien creatures they hurried back inside. They closed all the doors and sheets as the alien invasion was very unexpected.
It is reported that there were nearly 12 green men in the woods that day. Some of them also tried to break into the house. The green men roamed around the house for quite some time. They even tried to enter the house. As the place was totally strange for them, the green men were totally confused. They tried to sneak into the house and even peeked through the windows. At some point, the Green men tried to get through the main door and climbed on the tree. They had green glowing eyes and were 3 feet tall.
4. The Fight
Due to the unexpected alien invasion and witnessing the flying saucer the Sutton family equipped themselves with guns. The guns had 12 gauge. When one of the green men tried to press the face on the screen door Billy shot fire against him. He thought that the alien creature must be dead. Though the screen door was destroyed the green man disappeared. He was nowhere to be found.
As Billy, Taylor, and Lucky went outside to see what happened. One of the aliens was waiting on the roof to grab them. They went back inside and held their guns. As more creatures came outside the house more gunshots were fired. The gunshots didn’t affect the green men. The bullets were hitting the green men as if they were hitting a piece of metal. In the end, they decided to stay put. The bullets were not affecting the creatures.
5. The Police Investigation
The family gathered around and sat together. The five adults had a serious discussion. After all, the gunfight proved to be one-sided. They all were confused and extremely scared of the green men lurking outside. All of them turned on all the lights of the house. They waited for something to come up. As some time passed by, it went silent the outside.
The children came out of their room and began to cry. Five adults decided to go to the police station to find some answers to this strange incident. They were completely freaked out and scared to their death.
As the Sutton family was very scared and confused, the police also didn’t have any idea how to resolve the situation. 8 years earlier they faced the same conflict. The same UFO sighting occurred in Roswell. The officer called the Kentucky police station. The chief ordered the personnel to investigate the matter and visit the place.
6. No Evidence
Police personnel went to the farmhouse. They saw nothing like little green men lurking in the woods. The personnel searched the entire property including the farmhouse and its roof. All they found were bullet holes in the doors and windows. One police officer even saw a light glowing in the woods. But when they searched for the green men there were no signs of green men.
The personnel returned to the police station. They told the family that they had come back empty-handed. As there was no evidence at the property the officers invited all the family members to ask separately. The interrogation was not fruitful at all. Billy and his family answered the questions with the same description.
7. Small Alien Creatures
After a stressful evening, everyone dozed off and went into a deep sleep. Glenie was sleeping in her bedroom and Lucky was snoozing on the couch. At 3.30 a.m., Gleeni was awoken by a shudder. A 3-foot-tall man was standing outside the window. She quickly called Lucky and told her to look outside the house.
Billy and Ray visited the house. They searched for the little men for some hours with guns in their hands. They reported that the creatures left the property when the sunlight hit the earth. This was the last when they ever saw the green men in the woods.

It is a known fact that such incidents attract media and police like moth to the flame. Within a short period, the Sutton family’s farmhouse was filled with journalists and cameras.
The town of Hopkinson didn’t back down from the fact that their town is tagged as a place that witnessed UFOs. This incident included farmers, UFO scientists, and researchers. Kentucky leaned towards UFO sightings history.
9. Little Green Men Festival
Similar to the McMinnville UFO sighting, Hopkinson also started the ‘Little Green Men Festival’. The festival contains crafts, hayrides, UFO logistics, and researchers. The festival takes place for over four days. It is characterized by live music and lectures by various experts. This festival gathers thousands and millions of people. Young men and women are into these kinds of topics and sightings.
Every year, the Little Green Men Festival manages to attract thousands of people from Kelly. People gather around and discuss extraterrestrial tales among themselves. The incident experienced by the Sutton family was printed in almost all the newspapers across the entire nation. Kelly also became popular for solar eclipse in 2017.
10. Great Horned Owl
There were not only praiser but not also critics of the Kelly Hopkinsville encounter. The people who criticized the encounter claimed that the description of the little green men was similar to that of the great horned owl.
Great horned owl also has glowing eyes, sounds, and the ability to float in the air in the dark. Therefore it might be possible that the family had seen the owl in the roof.
The great horned owls are known for their aggressive behaviour. They were jumbled with aliens before because of their overall presence. Some critics also claimed that most of the family members might be drunk. But when the police investigated the house and witnesses, they found no such pieces of evidence.
10. The Conclusion
As mentioned above when the family went to the house late in the night, Glennie saw one of the little men outside the window. But the neighbours told the reports that they didn’t engage in enabling the gunshots. Instead, they packed their things and went to Evansville. At this time they decided not to fight with the aliens and went to mind their own business. They were surely afraid of the creatures in the woods. Their children were also terrified because of the gunshots and glowing eyes.
There has been a constant debate over the UFO sightings across the United States of America. The discussion is still ignited when someone mentions a glowing light in the sky. When Billy saw the spaceship passing over his head he saw a rainbow light stretching behind.
Whether Kelly-Hopkinsville is real or a hoax incident is still a mystery similar to Warminster and McMinnville. No evidence has been found to date.
