1. Dal Makhani

Dal makhani is my favorite dish. It is so delicious, just taste like heaven, and one of the favorite and popular Indian lentil dishes, of most Indian families. Dal Makhani is actually Black lentils (urad ki dal) with an amazing flavourful mix of butter.

The flavor and taste of Dal Makhani just doubled with Indian flatbreads, especially rumali or tandoori roti and Indian spices. It is generally eaten in every second home, on alternative days and nobody can ever get bored with its taste.

Every time it tastes so unique and literally, this is a mouthwatering dish. At least I can eat it endlessly if my stomach allows me to. What about you? Share in the comments.

This is generally consumed with rice. Delightful onion pakoda with kadhi and a mixture of Punjabi flavored spices makes it one of the popular dishes.

The main ingredients of this famous food of Punjab are Chickpea flour and curd(to make it a little sour) together with Indian spices.

You can eat it with rice or chapati as well. In both ways, it is enjoyable, especially its sour and spicy taste.

2. Chole Bhature

Another famous food of Punjab you must try is Chole bhature. Impeccable taste and best option for your breakfast.

If it is served with buttermilk and having funnel cake (jalebi) as desert, it will make a perfect Sunday breakfast. I am already drooling.

Bhature is prepared from All purpose/refined wheat flour. Firstly refined wheat flour mix with salt and a little amount of oil and then it is converted into a dough and then make small balls from the dough and roll it until it is flattened, then deep fry it and you’re ready with you bhature. 3. Bread Pakora

Another favorite dish or snack is generally served with Tea and of course ketchup or green chutney.

Recipe of Bread Pakora:- Bread is dipped in a mixture of spices, water, and Chickpea flour. Water is used in little quantity just to make the proper texture of flour and then this bread is deep-fried.

That’s it you get a crispy texture for your snack, don’t forget to sprinkle some chaat or garam masala to make it tastier.

4. Aloo Paratha

Another favorite food for breakfast. Paratha of potato filling, together with tangy pickle, a bowl of curd, or a glass full of Lassi and don’t forget about butter or desi ghee.

Just eat this full-packed breakfast and you will not feel hungry for 4-5 straight.

The stuffing of Aloo paratha contains mashed potatoes, coriander, and some Indian spices like salt, dried pomegranate seeds, red chilli powder, and green chillies together giving a spicy, and lip-smacking taste.

5. Shahi Paneer

Paneer is an inseparable item from Punjabi Cuisine. There are so many delicious recipes you can prepare with paneer like Shahi paneer, kadhai paneer, paneer tikka, and the list will go on and on.

Talking about shahi paneer it is an exotic dish, a thick gravy or you can say thick and spicy tomato cream sauce with almond paste is cooked, according to Punjabi cuisine and then cubes of paneer are added.

This is a vegetarian recipe of butter chicken and another mouth-watering cheese curry. Don’t miss trying this.

6. Paneer Tikka

Paneer tikka is the vegetarian version of chicken tikka. The exotic Chargrilled paneer with Punjabi flavors is a perfect starter that can replace your non-vegetarian items. Any party is incomplete without a starter like this yummy paneer tikka.

7. Kulche Chole

The most popular food in Punjab especially in Amritsar. Amritsari kulcha is one of the most loving Punjabi food. You can call it a variation of another known and famous naan.

Kulche is prepared with different flavors and items like Aloo kulcha, Paneer kulcha, masala kulcha. It can be served either with chole and Lassi or with a bowl of curd.

8. Palak Paneer

This dish resembles Sarson ka saag but the taste is different from it. As earlier mentioned paneer can’t be separated from the diet. So this is another dish cooked in winter especially. It is one of the favorites and famous food of north India.

9. Red Kidney Beans

This is also called (Rajma) taste better with rice but can be eatable with both Rice and tortilla. All age people love this but children especially.

This is also a frequently cooked dish in Punjab but whenever it is cooked it’s like something special happened. Usual red beans cooked with Punjabi spices makes it another traditional dish of Punjab

10. Sarson Da Saag & Makke Ki Roti

 

Another authentic food of Punjab. Sarson ka saag is considered a traditional food. Sarson is grown in different places in India, especially in the fields of Punjab. Among its various uses, one of the popular use of sarson is to prepare Sarson ka saag.

Recipe:- Sarson da saag is prepared after cleaning and boiling the sarson, then it is a grind to give a perfect texture and look than the most important thing that is basic Indian spices is added through tempering(tadka) and then it is served with Makki di roti.

Recipe for Makki ki roti:- There is a specific flour that is called makke ka atta. This flour is used to prepare a dough and then it is used to prepare makki ki roti. Small balls from the dough are taken, rolled, and prepared just like usual chapatis.

Sarson ka saag with homemade butter and makke ki roti what else do you need to make yourself happy? This is just more than enough to correct your mood swings for food cravings.

11. Tandoori Chicken

How is it possible to talk about Punjab and not about chicken? So tandoori chicken consists of course chicken marinated in yogurt and then cooked in tandoor and sprinkled with tandoori masala over it. Eat it and you will chew your fingers as well because of its lip-smacking taste.

All-time favorite beverage. There is no perfect or right time of drinking a big glass of lassi but whenever you’re drinking it that’s the right time for your taste buds especially. Lassi is sometimes garnished with dry fruits for flavoring it and a spoon of thick cream(malai).

15. The Staple Food of Punjab

Parathas and rice can be considered as the staple food of Punjab. There are different types of stuffed paratha like gobhi paratha, paneer cheese paratha, methi paratha, onion paratha, radish paratha, are many more topped with desi ghee and cottage cheese or butter.

Rice cooked with different vegetables like peas, potato, carrot, cauliflower, and served with green chutney is another delicious dish and it can be your afternoon meal or hurried weekday dinner that can be served anytime according to your cravings.
