Maadhvan Goyal is a young and talented artist from Delhi, deeply inspired by ancient Indian culture and Hindu spirituality. He creates abstract figurative artworks using acrylics and loves experimenting with various mediums. He believes that an artist’s vision is key to understanding and enjoying art.
He has participated in prestigious international exhibitions and competitions and creates art relating to Abstract and Conceptual pieces. Based in Delhi, he runs his studio and is involved in various artistic activities, including different types of paintings, commissions, digital illustrations, 3D printing, and graffiti.
He weaves together tradition and modernity, inviting viewers to appreciate the rich tapestry of Hindu heritage through his creations. In his conversation with Icy Tales, Maadhvan Goyal spoke about his artistic journey, his opinion on handmade artwork along some inputs on digital art.
“I wanted to be an artist ever since I was young” – Maadhvan Goyal
Maadhvan Goyal completed his schooling in Mumbai, India, and believes that schools in Mumbai do not promote and encourage students to take up art. “Although this was the situation in Mumbai, I wanted to pursue Art because I was very passionate”, he says. After completing school, he joined an Art College where his professional journey began.
“I joined Jamia Millia Islamia College in New Delhi where I studied more about Art”. He completed both his graduation and post-graduation in the same University. At present, he calls himself a ‘Proud Freelancer’, where he is doing what he loves doing.
“I love producing and creating what my mind thinks about” – Maadhvan Goyal
Maadhvan Goyal loves narrowing down his thoughts into reality on a canvas. He also feels great when his art is being appreciated by people. “When people appreciate my work, it genuinely feels awesome”, he says. He believes that as an artist, he should feel delighted about his work before expecting others to applaud him.
“Handmade art and paintings are very precious in today’s world” – Maadhvan Goyal
“Handmade paintings are closely related to artists because they develop it”, he says. He also says that the reason why handmade paintings are so precious is because an artist’s emotions are completely invested in the piece of work.
He has also checked out AI-generated artwork and believes that there is nothing special about it as there are no emotions attached to it. “Handmade work has a special value attached to it, and it is something that AI-generated art does not have”, he says.
He appreciates the artists who make chairs and tables with their own hands. “There are so many people in today’s world who weave material for chairs and it has a different value as a whole”, he says.
“In Conceptual Art, you will not see anything deeply but there will be a strong meaning hidden in it” – Maadhvan Goyal
Maadhvan Goyal believes that all artwork doesn’t need to have a meaning behind it. “We have a lot of artwork that has no meaning, but still is a hit”, he says. He says many popular artists in the world just want to explore their creativity, so it is completely fine for an artwork to not have a meaning.
He speaks about a popular Norwegian painter, Edvard Munch who used to paint versatile paintings and display them in his art gallery. “During that time, Art Galleries were not very popular but he attracted people through his paintings that did not have any meaning but were very unique”, he says.
He believes that all artists perceive art differently and it is subject to change every time. “In my artist journey, I started with realistic paintings and I am slowly moving toward Abstract art but somewhere or the other, both the styles get mixed”, he says.
He strongly believes that Abstract Art is very unpredictable. “If I am painting a bottle, I know what colors I should use in the right spot and I will finish it in a short period. But when I am doing an abstract painting, I will go with the flow and the process will be time-consuming”, he says.
“Dedication and Consistency is the key” – Maadhvan Goyal
Upon conversing on the advice he has for the upcoming artists, Maadhvan Goyal wishes to share the same advice he received from his seniors. “Dedication and Consistency is the key that all artists should follow”, he says. He also adds that many young artists are in a hurry to do things that well-experienced artists are doing.
“Many of my students tell me that they want to skip doing realistic painting and jump directly to Abstract paintings because that is what everyone is doing”, he says. He believes that the journey of young artists should start in the right way. He compared it to the growth of a baby, “First a baby crawls, then slowly stands on two legs, falls, walks, runs and also jumps; that is how everyone should take only one step at a time”.
“Social Media and Digital Art is becoming very popular” – Maadhvan Goyal
Maadhvan Goyal speaks about how social media and digital art are growing in this modern world. “Nowadays when I visit Art Exhibitions, I always see a separate section for Digital Art and something like this was not there a few years ago”, he says.
He believes that the world of art is continuously evolving in terms of style, strokes, and overall creativity. “This is also very unpredictable because we never know, in the next few years, the entire concept of painting may go digital”, he says.
“Painting means everything to me” – Maadhvan Goyal
Maadhvan Goyal strongly agrees that he is living his childhood dream of being a painter. “Many people call me a painter, visual artist but I don’t care what they call me, I only want to keep painting“, he says. He loves painting so much that he could keep doing it his entire life.
“The sad reality of this world is that we cannot just stick to doing one thing, we need to maintain a balance of doing things simultaneously”, he says. He also expresses how he is so fond of painting and loves the fact that he can do what he loves doing. “There are so many people in this world who are doing things that they don’t like but I am happy that I am doing what I love”.
Maadhvan Goyal urges youngsters to keep trying and never give up in every aspect of life. He wishes to inspire more artists like him and help them grow in the field of visual arts.
