Q) Could you tell us how and when you knew you wanted to pursue real estate as your career and what led you to it ? why Shakthi constructions? Is there any backstory behind it ?
Navya Pahujaโ It started when I was 17 yrs old , when i had my first job at a start up company as a business development manager. I was always better at working and eventually it was the need of the hour for my family. My father left real estate 20 to 25 yrs ago and there was a plot of land ready to work with.
At 19, I decided with my father that it is better not to do joint venture with another builder and why not kind of tap into our family history and do what we know is best, so it was joint effort by me and my father and we were ready to get into this together.
Sakthi constructions was found at the time of independence by my great grandfather when he migrated to Bombay. They had massive business and exchanged plots of lands and businesses and try to manage evrything. Eventually he decided to settle in Bombay and that is how sakthi constructions was born. my father was interested in engineering later in life and i found my passion in real estate.
Q) What inspired you to not give up and keep going in your journey?
Navya Pahujaโ One thing that i learnt is that every obstacle will end. there is absolutely no point in stressing pointlessly. You have to keep moving forward. This is more like a life learning for me than like a real estate learning because I started my career at 19 which is very scary and intimidating. But at the same time I got the opportunity to learn everything from scratch and from ground .
I used to stress all the time since i did not have any previous experience in this field but thankfully, i was blessed with the best team that was very patient with me and understood that i come from a different perspective . so you just have to keep moving forward and everything will eventually happen. there is no permanant struggle or obstacle. My parents have been my motivation. I think when you work very hard and come home to see that they are so proud of you is what youโll need and that has been my constant motivation.
Q) Could you share any notable achievements of shakthi constructions ?
Navya Pahuja -Notable achievement is the fact that we were able to build on this land because its a really old project and it took us four years to revive it and we had shut down during covid because we knew that people were not going too invest in property and that was not the first priority. First priority was survival and that was the same thing for us as well.
We decided to keep a backseat during covid and so it took us four years to get lot of stuff rolling because as I mentioned we did not have banners, we did not have brand managers back in the days. All the agencies were struggling so basically it takes a lot of effort for construction and clearly everyone were struggling.
After all that when the registration was done we all celebrated and we were so happy because it felt like we won a war. It was a realization that its finally happening and we had the intention that it is only going to move forward from there and here we are today.
Navyaโs first real estate project, Pahuja Business Avenue, proves her commitment to quality. This project holds great sentimental value as it stands on land her great-grandfather purchased at independence. Navya transformed this land into a unique commercial building that boasts of an exceptional architectural design. Navigating the male-dominated real estate industry has its fair share of challenges and Navya credits the support of several mentors and colleagues for helping her overcome these obstacles.
