STORY BEHIND THIS EXCEPTIONAL CRUISE
The family-owned and operated AmaWaterways was founded in 2002 by 3 families who celebrate nineteen years on the river but, the river cruise story began well before that. Co-Founder and President Rudi Schreiner were born in the national capital, at the heart of the Danube river.
In 1975, he traveled to South America for a journalism assignment on the Amazon, and it had been here where he designed his 1st ship and explored what he might realize to build a raft that would take him up and down the river throughout the following months.
Not so long after that, he started operating with travel, making distinctive tour experiences in river cruises in Europe.
THE TURNING POINT
Developing itineraries and ships that would become the templates for what we know river cruising today, Rudi started the North American operations for many of today’s major river cruise companies.
After years of success as a driving force in the industry, he decided to start his venture, providing the guests with a higher class of luxury travel in river cruises by river rhine.
That’s where he teamed up with Kristin Karst- Co-owner and Jimmy Murphy- Co-founder to begin AmaWaterways. In 2016, Rudi was inducted into the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Hall of Fame.
