STORY BEHIND THIS EXCEPTIONAL CRUISE
The family-owned and operated AmaWaterways was founded in 2002 by 3 families who celebrate nineteen years on the river but, the river cruise story began well before that. Co-Founder and President Rudi Schreiner were born in the national capital, at the heart of the Danube river.
In 1975, he traveled to South America for a journalism assignment on the Amazon, and it had been here where he designed his 1st ship and explored what he might realize to build a raft that would take him up and down the river throughout the following months.
Not so long after that, he started operating with travel, making distinctive tour experiences in river cruises in Europe.
THE TURNING POINT
Developing itineraries and ships that would become the templates for what we know river cruising today, Rudi started the North American operations for many of today’s major river cruise companies.
After years of success as a driving force in the industry, he decided to start his venture, providing the guests with a higher class of luxury travel in river cruises by river rhine.
That’s where he teamed up with Kristin Karst- Co-owner and Jimmy Murphy- Co-founder to begin AmaWaterways. In 2016, Rudi was inducted into the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Hall of Fame.
She was honored with their Lifetime Achievement Award for his devotion to the river cruising industry old town Gothic churches and Christmas markets that appear as if picked from a fairy tale world.
THE TEAM OF PIONEERS
Kristin has very well maintained her role as Executive Vice President. Jimmy Murphy was a magnificent travel entrepreneur, one of the foremost productive tour operators in the U.S. Jimmy’s son, Gary, is now Senior Vice President of Sales at AmaWaterways.
They also played a major part at Brendan. This way, a dedicated team of pioneers emerged together with Rudi.

These castles embrace Ehrenbreitstein defensive structure, a Prussian stronghold; Marksburg Castle, which is the solely crown castle along the Rhine River that was never destroyed and has modified very little since medieval times; and Ehrenfels Castle, a fortress that was built in the early 13th century and now is in ruins following its destruction during the Seige of Mainz in 1689.
Thus can all be in front of your eyes by sailing through this beautiful river cruise along the Rhine.
