In his conversation with Icy Tales, Sahaj Sabharwal spoke about his journey, his nature of work, his experience of being a young writer along his plans in this field.
Q) Tell us something about the nature of your work
Sahaj Sabharwal: Iโm pursuing my final year in aeronautical engineering because I can see that many people are not taking this course; they think there is no scope for it. There is indeed no scope now, but in the coming years, it will have good scope.
I am also very passionate about writing and I published my first book, Poems by Sahaj Sabharwal at 17. The book is available on Amazon, Flipkart, and everywhere worldwide. So after that, I wrote my second book titled, Pedagogical Thoughts at the age of 19. It contains poems, thoughts, quotes, articles, and stories.
I have presented my books to famous people like the governor of Jammu and Kashmir. Many people have also appreciated my work including the Chief Minister and DCP of Jammu and Kashmir because they are based on social issues and have motivational content.
As I was a young author from Jammu and Kashmir, it was a proud moment for everyone. Right now I am 21 years old and I have published my third book Anecdote. Itโs not released officially yet, but itโs published.
Q) When did you get this idea to develop content through Instagram?
Sahaj Sabharwal: Actually, I started writing and posting my quotes on my social media pages, especially Instagram. I have about 14,000 followers on my Instagram and all of them are organic. Many people often go for getting fake followers, fake likes, fake comments, and fake reach. But mine is totally 100% original.
Using that, I became an influencer too because my overall reach was in millions. Through that, I got many brand collaborations. They send me the products and I review them on my social media. These promotions and both paid and unpaid. As a student, it was quite difficult, but I managed somehow.
Q) You have a keen interest in rapping. How did you discover this side of you?
Sahaj Sabharwal: I rarely write in the Hindi language but when I wrote my first Hindi poem type, I saw many rappers like Divine, Raftaar, Emiway, and Eminem. So using that beat, I wondered if I could also make my rap. I wrote those lyrics and made a rhyme. Then I developed a rhyming scheme and caught hold of a good flow.
I learned all these things through the online medium and my passion has been growing ever since. One of my rap songs is called โBalatkaarโ. Itโs about the growing cases of rape in India. The song got great fame and many people appreciated it and they are also using it as their ringtone and caller tone. That was my first rap and it was very successful. I will be writing more and publishing more in the future.
Q) What advice do you have for the younger generation to help them work on their dreams?
Sahaj Sabharwal: For the youngsters, I think the best advice would be to keep going. There will be a lot of opposition and negativity around you but you should not let that affect you. Those who donโt want you to grow are low on self-confidence themselves and they make you lose your confidence too. You should be the self-motivating machine.
Q) How did you develop an interest in poetry?
Sahaj Sabharwal: I wrote my first poem at the age of seven. I started participating in poetry contests that were organized in schools across Jammu. competitions there. I studied in DPS Jammu and there they would conduct many competitions like painting, drawing, acting, and singing.
I used to participate in all the competitions just for certificates. I loved getting certificates and I just wanted to get more and more. So through this, I developed a great interest in poetry too. My first poem was called โMotherโ. I published it on Motherโs Day and it was a gift to my mother.
Q) What are your plans for the future and how do you plan on achieving them?
Sahaj Sabharwal: I have learned many things only after failing, so I am not scared of failure. I want to do something new and unique; something that is difficult and is filled with a lot of struggles. People think that I am successful, but Iโm not even at the footstep of what I want to be.
The value of my plans is very high and I am getting there very slowly. I want to work harder and achieve my goals. I want to work very organically without taking any help from someone to get a sense of pride in me. In the aeronautical field, being a scientist or researcher is something on my head.
Many scientists in ISRO and NASA are doing many things that I am fond of. I also want to do something similar and discover something new so that India gets proud of me and the world gets proud of India for having me.
Sahaj Sabharwal aims to discover new things for himself as well as help others to do better in life. He is an inspiration of his own and inspires people to be self-dependent.
