I wanted to be in industrial psychology. Initially, I started graphology purely as a hobby.
I started practicing graphology professionally when I was around 18.

Initially, it was herculean to convince people and gain trust. Apart from my family and friends, many people were not ready to trust how I became a trained graphologist at such early age. Q) Graphology can be associated with developing mental health as well. Could you tell us something about that?

Sonal Oswal – Yes, the base of graphology is mainly a thought process. Graphologists interpret people’s mindsets and thought processes through handwriting and drawing. I use graphology for psychological perspectives and try understanding the mental state through writing. The base of handwriting is psychology. Hence, graphology has always been a powerful weapon in understanding mental health.

Sonal Oswal – Mainly, the digital world has stopped people from writing. Research states that the people who write are high on emotional quotient. When you write, your ability to focus gets activated because of writing.

I aim first to make them see the positive effects of writing. Even writing for 15 minutes every day can help bring in more self-awareness. Writing is a mental exercise that is great for your mental and physical health and an affordable tool. The whole study of graphology depends on the writing. It’s pivotal for people to understand the value of writing.

Sonal Oswal – One of the benefits of graphology is the movements I see in the handwriting. I never run into many things. It saves time for clients and experts. Mainly, the core of graphology is mental health. The same goes for psychology.

Graphology and psychology work together but in different manners and aspects. A psychologist and graphologist always aim to help the person with mental health issues and build the person’s psychological strength.

Sonal Oswal – One of the most memorable experiences was when I got a mention in the Times of India. The second was when one of the international trainers (my student) gave a review that my training was the best. There are challenges that I have seen in my life. I started young, and getting trust from clients was tough, and people did not believe in the subject as it was unconventional.

Very little motivation came from the external side. I got invited to different colleges, but people did not trust me there. They were like “pata nahi karoge ki nahi”. One major challenge was that people expected these things to be free, and charging payment was tricky. With time, things have changed a lot now. My parents supported me the most. The help I provide to people and when I see changes – motivates me to go. I see students being successful, and this inspires me.
